Chargebacks - Sick of Shopify’s charter for scammers

Anyone else absolutely sick of the way Shopify seem to have huge support for scammers all over the world ripping us off?

We’ve suffered multiple chargback scams over the last few years. We have full, clear documentation and tracking on every order, but every single time Shopify side with the scammers - with ZERO evidence from them.

Its an absolute disgrace, and Shopify with the banks are aiding and abetting criminals making this scam easy and more prevalent, and we pay for it!

i see other people are moving to other website hosts because of this. What other option is there?

Yes i have chargebacks too, i lost a few hundred dollars, right now I am using apps and for big orders i manually check the address and search them in google and forums to reduce chargebacks. if you have a big site, you can search for that chargeback app, they return your money for every order that they fail to protect.

Thanks. I’ll look into that

Chargebacks problems exists on all platforms and not just on Shopify. It is just that these bad actors know that there are a lot more easy prey on merchants on Shopify with little to no experience in dealing with chargebacks.

You need to have a fraud prevention workflow built into your fulfillment pipeline that will detect and prevent fraud from happening before a chargeback can be opened. This includes arming yourself with knowledge of certain fraud patterns, having a fraud app, and/or chargeback insurance in place.

These people need to be in prison.

This customer received their order then filed a chargeback with their bank. Clearly a chargeback scammer, be careful with them:

I use Merchanto.org to stop chargebacks for my Shopify store

try Merchanto.org. since i use this tool, i don’t give a fu*k about chargebacks

I just had another one today. Another $100 down the pan to a crook aided by shopify. When this happens with Paypal, I win 100% of cases. When it happens with shopify I loose 100% of cases.

I looked at Merchanto - maybe I didn’t understand it. It appears to make it even easier for people to scanm the money, it just by passes any check my visa -WTF?

Since I have setup a store I have been flooded with scamming digital marketers claiming they have looked through my website and can help me improve sales and workflow. I just keep blocking them everyday. And I had my credit card hacked shortly after setting up with shopify so I am a little suspicious of whether to continue on this business platform.

Yep same here. 250$ worth of charge backs. What’s even more messed up, is half the order was fulfilled by a print on demand service. So now I lose the money and the cost and time of hand making the product. I’m barely successful as it is. A few more of these and I won’t be able to continue doing business.

Has anybody ever had a chargeback from a guy named Raphael Kingston from Maryland, US ? He made a 1,000 dollar purchase on my store a few months ago, I asked for ID and proof of address, then he sent me his mother his driving license. So I cancelled the transaction. Then he contacted me on my stores instagram page asking why I cancelled .

Now he has just made another 1000 dollar transaction, again I asked for proof of ID and he has provided his driving license and the address shown matches the shipping address.

any opinions ?
