Right now, Shopify’s Basic plan doesn’t let you automatically swap shipping fees based on whether an address is residential or commercial. You have two opt:
1. Manual shipping-method workaround
Create two shipping options in your zone—one called “Residential Delivery – $X” and another called “Commercial Delivery – Free.” In your cart or checkout messaging, instruct customers to pick the correct option based on where they’re shipping. It’s not foolproof, but it gives you control without extra apps.
2. Use a shipping‑rules app
Apps like Parcelify (free tier), Advanced Shipping Rules, or Intuitive Shipping will let you set up real conditional logic. You can tell them to look at the address type field (residential vs. business) and then apply your standard fee or zero out the cost.
These apps work on Basic, and once configured they handle the address check and rate automatically. If you want zero manual work and fewer errors, go with one of those apps. Parcelify is a good place to start if you want to test it out at no cost.
