custom liquid embedding issues??

Hi there,

I am trying to update my store and make it fully customised, however I am having some issues I don’t quite know how to fix!

I had managed to make my store front seamless, however it is back to having page breaks despite the same code working perfectly yesterday, before my webpage crashed.

I also am uploading my design via custom liquid embedding, if this makes a difference?? I first designed my website and its layouts in canva, and I am custom embedding the code to each section.

Following on from this, I have not yet learn how to use this method to customise the Backgrounds of web pages while keeping the product pages in Dawn - like i just want to change the BG so it matches the overall theme of the shop once it is changed, but i wish for the overlays and clicky buttons of dawn to remain. Am I asking impossible questions of shopify here?

This is my first time editing a shopify theme and trying to make it so customised - while i would love for someone to just do this for me and save me the stress and hours it is taking, i simply cannot afford to do so. Plus i like the idea of being able to tweak it any time as need, myself, and allow myself the freedom of being able to do that and make it perfect for our business is most ideal.

Any in depth help and advice would be super appreciated!!

Hi @BookWyrmsTrove ,

Sorry to hear about this. Can you specify what was the issue? Custom liquid has some limits. So it might be better to add your code in a snippet or something. If you want, we can give you a quote. We price low compared to competitors btw. Just send us a message

Hi @BookWyrmsTrove :waving_hand: Do you want to be a book business, or do you want to be a web developer, choose one.

If using only HTML& CSS Validate it as a fragment https://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_input

For LOTS of code you should be using liquid snippet files, liquid settings in the theme editor have limits and that doesn’t even count side effects javascript may experience from being loaded in the wrong part of a theme.

No your just probably doing to many things at once making it unmanagable and hard to approach instead of asking simple straightforward questions.

If you want to change the background, literally search for just that, remove canva, liquid sections, etc from the convoluted equation and start simpler then add complexity.

Takes money to make money. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/o/opportunitycost.asp

It’s a cliched trap new ecommerce merchants dive into:trying to wear to many hats that lead to dead businesses.

Interacting with customers is freedom, trying to do every little thing is an albatross.

Unless your selling software you make customers do not care about how code savvy you are.

Doing all the web development only makes sense if you want to be a web developer otherwise it’s cope trying to justify saving money but really wasting alot of time and money.

And there will be things you literally cannot do and that will be a very bad time to start learning project-management of software development with something very complicated instead of simpler tasks.

Reread your own words and listen to yourself and move on to bigger things:

save me the stress and hours it is taking

Some people just like to do things themselves, and some people cannot afford the steep costs of getting others to do the work for them. I know these people work hard and deserve the pay for their jobs, but it is just a fact that it is very expensive and means that a lot of people cannot access the support of someone doing everything for them, unfortunately.

I am literally disabled, and run at markets mostly, this is just for me to have an online presence, and perhaps more lovely sales (we’ve had a good amount, more would always be a joy of course). I’m not looking to make millions, just enough to get by and keep crafting how i love, and making things for others to love, and getting some pocket money while doing so. I would really enjoy it if my website could look just how i’d like, and feel very “me” while doing all of this - hence wanting to customise it so much.

You do not know my history, perhaps i was a coder back when before i got disabled, but am encountering some issues??? try to be a little more kind in your responses. That was quite harsh, but i understand what you’re saying, but it isn’t always an option, for many people, I’m afraid.

I appreciate the part where you break some things down and mention the java interaction errors, that was really helpful and i will consider this.

i dont want to be savvy for customers, i want to be savvy for me, to make keeping my website up to date and looking lovely as easy as it can be for myself. i dont have staff, its just me.. so, i’d really like to be able to fix this issue and know how to do so, hence the post. I’m no further toward being able to do that.

i can specify, but i cannot afford to pay someone to fix this for me right now, hence wanting to learn and do so myself, sorry. As below, im disabled, run this business myself, and run at craft markets, mostly. i dont have disposable income like most folks do im afraid. i just want to fic this and do my best so i can keep working from home, doing something i love, and have my website work how i’d like and look nice while doing so, is all.

if you still would like me to specify and could help, i will gladly provide details for you? But i don’t want you to have to waste your time or anything, so i just wanted to be upfront about the circumstances.
