DDP for Shipping to the UK from Ireland

Topic summary

A business currently ships from Ireland to the UK using DAP (Delivered at Place) terms and is considering switching to DDP (Delivered Duty Paid).

Current Setup:

  • Using DAP shipping
  • Collecting UK VAT only on orders under £135
  • Courier collects UK VAT from customers
  • No duty currently applies on orders under £135

Questions About DDP Switch:

  • Whether the £135 duty threshold changes under DDP
  • If they’ll need to collect UK VAT on all orders (not just under £135)
  • Whether Shopify’s DDP settings need configuration when using UPS as courier

Planned Approach:

  • Building duty costs into pricing (hidden from customers)
  • UPS will invoice them per order for duties
  • A screenshot shows Shopify’s DDP configuration options

The discussion remains open with the business seeking clarification on VAT collection requirements and technical setup when transitioning to DDP terms with UPS.

Hi there,

We have been using DAP to ship parcels to the UK

We are looking into using DDP instead,

Currently, there is no duty on orders under £135

If we move to DDP, does this change?

Also we currently only collect UK vat at checkout for orders under £135

Our courier collects UK VAT from the customer.

if we move to DDP. I take it we will collect UK VAT on all UK orders,

Any advice appreciated,

Hi Josh,

Thanks for your reply,

I’m going to build the duty into our pricing, as i don’t want to display this to our customers.

We are going to use UPS & they will invoice us for it, per order.

I see Shopify has DDP settings,

Do i have to set this up too, if im using UPS?

Thanks!
