When you manually update orders with tracking numbers, your customers can automatically receive a shipping update email. You can preview the default email template by going to Settings > Notifications > Shipping update.

How do you fulfill orders in your store? If you use a dropshipping app, it will likely send the tracking number automatically to your customer once the order is shipped by the supplier (you can take a look at this DSers fulfillment guide as an example). This is the typical order fulfillment process of dropshipping apps, however, I recommend checking with the support team of the app you’re using to ensure that this is the case as some apps may require you to manually enter the tracking number once they share it with you. You may contact the app’s support team by following the steps on this page.
If you store your inventory and ship the products yourself, getting and sending the tracking number depends on how you’re purchasing the shipping labels you use for your orders. If you purchase labels in your admin with Shopify Shipping, tracking numbers are automatically added to the order and sent to the customer if you opt to send shipping information to them. If you purchase labels outside of Shopify and directly through your courier of choice, you’ll need to manually enter the tracking number when you fulfill the order in your admin. There are steps on how to do that on this page.
Once these tracking numbers are entered on the order page when you fulfill an order, a shipping confirmation email is sent by your store. You don’t need an app as a built-in notification exists in your admin. You can view this notification by going to Settings > Notifications > Shipping > Shipping confirmation. If you wish to edit this email, you can refer to this guide.
To ensure that your customers have the best experience when they check out of your store, I recommend placing a test order. Placing a test order will allow you to see what customers encounter at your checkout and receive the notifications they receive. This is a great way to know how to fine-tune the order process and guarantee that the customers have everything they need when they place an order. You can refer to this guide to place test orders.

I would suggest you use an order fulfilment app like Multi Carrier Shipping Label.
It will automatically send live order tracking updates to customers via email as soon as the tracking status is updated by the shipping carrier, saving you time and allowing you to focus on your business.
