I am configuring the downpay app on my store to app the functionality to take pre-orders when variants of products are out of stock. I am having an issue with this functionality. Has anyone successfully implemented this kind of UX?
I have several products I want to implement this feature on and only see it on one. There isnt a difference in the config aside from the product being different.
Hey,
The native way is to enable Continue selling when out of stock for each variant: In Shopify admin, go to Products → select each product → click each variant → Inventory section → check Continue selling when out of stock → Save. Repeat for all variants you want available for pre-order. Here’s the official guide.
Trade-offs: Shopify won’t automatically display “Pre-order” labels or change button text - you’ll need to manually enable this setting for every variant across all your products.
Alternately, an app like K1 PreOrder can automate that (I’m the founder of K1 PreOrder) with inventory-based display modes (Always / Out of stock / Below threshold) that automatically show the pre-order button when stock runs out, plus automatic CSWOOS management and custom button text. If this is relevant, here’s the K1 PreOrder listing.
Happy to help with the Shopify setup if needed.
Best regards,
