Fraud alert

We have received the following weekly alert for several customers. The fraud analysis is medium and high.

“You may receive a chargeback on this order. It’s recommended that you confirm the order before fulfilling it”.

To manage orders flagged with medium or high fraud analysis, it’s essential to verify each order before fulfillment. You can contact the customer directly to confirm their details, such as billing address or order specifics. Additionally, consider implementing a manual review process for these orders to assess their legitimacy further. Using tools like Shopify’s fraud analysis reports can help you track patterns and make more informed decisions on fulfilling orders.

Btw, how many chargebacks do you have per month?

Hey :waving_hand:

Fraudulent orders often show specific patterns, such as:

  • Shipping/billing address mismatches
  • High-value orders from new customers
  • IP location different from shipping address

Shopify assigns a risk level to these orders so you can evaluate them before fulfillment. It’s always worth reaching out to the customer to verify the order - while this isn’t 100% foolproof, it adds an extra layer of security.

Here’s what typically happens with fraud:

someone makes a purchase → receives the item → then initiates a chargeback through their bank.

The bad thing for you is that you need to pay Shopify’s chargeback fees plus your lost revenue and inventory.
