Frustrated over simple design issue

Why isn’t there a way to specify what image to display on the homepage dependent on whether the use is on a desktop or a mobile device? Most users are connecting with us on mobile, so the header/banner image we specify as a default looks ridiculous on mobile. Specifying one that displays correct on mobile looks ridiculous if accessed via a desktop. Since we’re able to specify what photo, and since Shopify certainly knows there is a difference between mobile/desktop viewing…why can’t we simply specify a photo for each?

This seems like something EVERY shopify user would want, yet it takes an hour or more of time to find a stranger online who suggests code to edit some section of some file that I have to clear past multiple warnings about not screwing it up or my site will crash and be unavailable. I will gladly admit my own naive or newbie existence of someone will show me a (non-coding) method to achieve this.

We went to the Shopify platform for it’s ease of use, and because as you may have guessed, we are NOT web designers or coders. I continue to run into what we strongly believe are commonplace features/edits that require coding at every turn, and backing up our theme, and nervously trusting people on the web who post code telling us to copy/paste into a particular place. It’s maddening if you understand that these are for some of the most simple things that its likely a larger population of Shopify users would want to do. Why can’t there be a selection?
