Gift card QR code

Hi there,

Can anyone explain how QR/barcodes work in relation to physical gift cards? We have just launched the new shop on Shopify. I can see that I can purchase gift cards through Shopify. If I was to do this with a third party, how do I get the correct QR code onto the physical cards?

I need to understand how Shopify sets these up. Are they temporary gift card entries with no value on, and they get assigned a value and a code when the card is scanned in store OR is there one QR code for my shops gift cards and the same QR code is applied to all the cards I purchase?

Iā€™m happy going through Shopify to purchase these, but would like to know how these QR codes are generated.
