Google Search Console is Indexing Page URLS that I did not set up and look like spam or hackers

I have just launched my first Shopify store for k9ightlights.com and am learning how to get to the top page of google search. I am very new to this as this is my first business. While learning and setting up Google Search Console, I noticed that there are a ton of Indexed & non-indexed page urls that I DID NOT create. This really concerns me because it seems as though someone is hacking into my website or spamming me and I cannot find much information on how to fix this online and have no idea what to do. I really just want to work on getting my website to the top of google, but now my main priority is removing all of these urls that I did not make and stop the urls that I did not create from continuing to be added to my google search console. (only keeping the urls I actually did create). I have listed most of these urls below and also attached csv files with tables of these issues. Questions are also listed at the bottom of this post. Please help me with what I need to do to have these removed and block whoever is doing this from continuing to do so.

Currently google search console says that we have 24 indexed pages and 66 non-indexed pages. Only 12 of these 24 Indexed pages I actually created. Using the ScreamingFrog SEO Software for an audit, it found 21 internal page Links that I actually did create so something is not adding up right on google search console.

The URLS for the pages that I DID create and need to show up on google search are listed below (these are the ONLY ones that I made and should be showing up) (these would be the URLs that I need to be indexed and showing up on google right now - although, not all of these are currently showing as indexed):

The URLs for the pages that are showing up on our google search console but we DID NOT create (Spam? or Hacker?), but HAVE BEEN INDEXED are listed below (and growing daily):

There are also many different URLs that we DID NOT create that are showing up as non-indexed on google search console, but they should not be there.

Please see the images I have attached below regarding this issue.

The questions I have are:

I know this was a long post, but I would appreciate the help more than you know.

This is just one of Google’s peculiar behaviours. Maybe there’s someone within their support who can explain it to some degree but Google’s SEO is intentionally mysterious; knowing how it works would just make it easier to game the system. You can safely ignore these. Nobody is hacking you, nobody is spamming you, it’s just Google trying to figure out your site.

Honestly until you have substantial traffic on your site you can safely ignore a lot of the information that’s in there. Google wants to build information for you based on how users are using it, and until they do the strange unbidden behaviours of Google will be the only things you see.

Many pages are blocked by the robots.txt by default simply because you don’t want customers landing there as their first impression of your store. For example, you mention wanting your /cart page to be indexed. Why? That would be a terrible place for customers to land first, on an empty cart, it’s very uninviting. So it’s blocked. You can apply this logic to everything on that list :slightly_smiling_face:

Google search results are going to be a very small draw for a business like yours. Doing a quick search just for “led dog collar” the top results are Amazon and Walmart and they spend billions to keep it that way. Unless you have billions +1 to spend beating them you’ll want to take a more direct approach at marketing yourself. Local dog meets for example! Spend more time finding your customers on a more personal level and less time stressing about URLs and you’ll make way more sales!

We also have this issue and our Google ranking is dropping like a rock. In particular many pages from collections as so, then on to casino themed sites.collections/vendors?q=…. Most come up as 404 pages to protect google and the public but of course sending 100’s maybe 1000s of spam pages within my stores sitemap trashes our SEO. Maybe Shopify could help? It’s too big for me.

This is hurting my Google Ranking and indexing as well.

Help please. I want to stop this.

My website has 6 pages, Google is indexing 85.

It sounds like unwanted URLs are being created on your Shopify store, which could be due to spam, malicious activity, or improperly configured apps or themes. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Check Theme and Apps: Remove any untrusted third-party apps or themes that might be generating unwanted pages.

  2. Review Sitemap: Ensure your sitemap includes only the URLs you’ve created. If it contains unwanted pages, they may be generated by your store or theme.

  3. Remove URLs: Use Google Search Console’s URL Removal Tool to take down unwanted pages and submit a new sitemap with only the correct URLs. For insights into handling such issues, you might explore resources like https://3pattiworld.pk/ for general website guidance.

  4. Block Crawling: Update your robots.txt file in Shopify to disallow unwanted pages from being indexed.

  5. Secure Your Store: Enable SSL, use strong passwords, and activate two-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized access.

  6. Audit Regularly: Use tools like ScreamingFrog to monitor for unexpected URLs and check Google Search Console frequently.

Taking these steps will help you remove unwanted URLs and protect your site going forward.
