We are now registered with GS1 and have acquired 1000+ barcodes.
Their dashboard suggests uploading back a list of barcodes with the products assigned to them, in order to register them on their GEPIR database.
Is this practice beneficial in terms of SEO, legality, etc? Or do you suggest skipping it altogether?
Is already enough work to upload details for hundreds of products on Google Shopping, Facebook Merchant etc. So we would gladly avoid to have to do more spreadsheets work for GS1 as well…
Hi Rawalarm,
I suspect you have probably found a solution by now, but if this is still a topic of interest, check out the GS1 Assistant App. The App support assigning UPC or EAN codes from your purchased GS1 company prefix directly to your Shopify products SKU or Barcode field. The App also supports downloading a file already formatted for upload into GS1. Once in DataHub (GS1 USA) it should be verifiable by the GEPIR database you referenced. It looks like that service will work for multiple GS1 regions. I tried an EAN code issued by GS1 Germany and that validation service was able to locate it and show the product info.
