Having a problem with Predictive search in my site

Hi to all,

My predictive function does not work as expected in my theme. When somebody types the results come in correctly, but when you click on show all results no results are shown. This only happens in mobile. I am at loss now. Can somebody help ?

My site is www.home-in-style.gr

TIA

Hey there, @Ouuzi . Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify Community with your search situation today. It’s great to meet you! I hope you’re doing well.

I appreciate you lending a link to your store here for some real-time testing. I loaded up your site on my desktop first and searched the characters ‘Ch’ in your search function. Many results appeared. I then scrolled down this list to the bottom where there was some wording that said ‘view all’ when translated. Is this the wording that, when clicked, is showing no results on mobile? I’d just like to be sure I’m clicking on the correct link. Once I had clicked this link, I was shown results. So desktop looks good!

I then tried this on my mobile device. I loaded your store, typed ‘Ch’, and results loaded. I scrolled to the ‘view all’ wording, tapped it, and was taken to a page that showed results. So this was functioning exactly how the desktop was. Are these similar to the steps you’re taking to have the no results error?

If the steps I took on my mobile device match the ones you’ve taken, then it’s likely that the issue could be local. A cache/cookies clear may just resolve this issue for you!

In the case that this doesn’t do the trick, I have a few context-gathering questions I want to ask so I can look into some next steps for you:

  • Can you share with us what theme you’re using in your store?
  • When did you first notice that this was happening?
  • Where did you download your store theme from?
  • Has anybody been customizing any code lately for your theme?
  • Have you downloaded any applications recently?

Please, get back to me when you can with the requested info above and we’ll keep digging into things here if the steps I outlined above don’t do the trick.

Hi please check the search field that is in the drawer menu.
I have made this quick search in the header because I did not have this
functionality working.

Hey again, @Ouuzi . Thanks for following up with me and clarifying which search bar appears to be giving you troubles.

I loaded your site up on my phone again and tried the search bar in your drawer menu. I was able to replicate the issue you described on my mobile. Using the letters ‘Ch’ for testing, the initial search doesn’t load any results. However, if I retry the search once I’m on the new page with the same letters, it works and loads results as expected.

I couldn’t pinpoint any clear changes between this search bar and the other search bar/your https://home-in-style.gr/search page, so there’s nothing on the service level that indicates specifically what the difference is here.

This leads me to believe that their is a coding issue with the bar in your drawer menu, and it definitely requires a deeper look.

Coding issues are outside of the scope of support for Shopify Support employees like myself, but our specialized teams may be able to lend a hand here. Depending on the theme you’re using, and how customized things are, they can likely take a look into this for you. I recommend reaching out to the team using this link here, so you can get authenticated and someone can take a look. Additionally, the person you connect with will be able to access the backend of your store, and do some more in-depth troubleshooting to see if this could be related to a setting within your admin instead.

With all of the above being said, your website looks great! It’s very well-fleshed out and has lots of important and useful information there. As a piece of feedback, I think you could benefit from building an 'About Us page! This is a small addition you can make to your site to help foster a stronger brand/customer trust relationship, and it helps customers more easily see themselves using your products. Take a look at this resource here for some tips on making one!

Thanks a lot for your kind words!

I have spent a lot of time setting up the store. This theme is a premium theme from shopify store named Ira, it is nice, but it has a few bugs, and the support team of the theme are not active, which is disappointing. I was expecting something different from a premium theme.

I had to do this search bar myself which is just letting the desktop icon to be visible in mobile devices. This is beyond my skills and I lost a lot of time researching for something that their developer could do in 10 minutes. All in all, very dissapointed with the support of a premium theme and shopify must really do something for us. I have contacted support several times and this is almost two months unresolved.

You can not even ask for refund which I find crazy.

If you check all the mobile versions of the Fluorescent themes in the theme store have this problem. Search function in mobile does not work correctly.

Anyway I am just sharing my thoughts, if you can help it would be really appreciated.

I appreciate all that context there, @Ouuzi . Sounds like you’ve been through the rounds when it comes to getting this search bar situation looked into.

All the Themes from our Theme Store should be supported by Partners, so I’m surprised to hear that support from the developer doesn’t seem to be possible. I think it would be worthwhile for you to reach out to our Support Team using the link I provided you earlier, so you can make our team now. When there’s an issue with a premium, third-party theme from our Theme Store, we often are able to contact the developer directly on your behalf. This means that the developer hears from Shopify and you regarding your question, to see if they can lend a hand. Is this how you reached our to the developer for support in the past? If not, I strongly recommend going this route now, as it may yield different results. Additionally, if support for the theme isn’t ongoing, then this would be really good information for our team to have so letting them know directly though the portal would be ideal.

You search functionality is working great aside from the drawer menu there on mobile. To be clear - was the search bar in the menu something you built yourself, or something that came with the theme that you customized? Even with a free Shopify theme, if things become too customized, our scope of support begins to become more limited as these are customizations our team hasn’t had a hand in creating.

Since coding is beyond our scope, especially for a third-party theme, there’s not much I can do directly here to advise on how to fix your drawer menu search bar beyond reaching out to our Live Team and evaluating the next steps provided to you there.

If you exhaust all of your options, then you can look into hiring a Shopify Expert to get this search bar working properly for you. These are folks that make their livings off of helping merchants with issues such as this, and they’ve also worked hard to maintain strong, positive relationships with Shopify and the merchants they’ve helped. Using the resource I’ve hyperlinked above would let you make a post about the help you’re looking for, and Experts will reach out to you to let you know what’s possible.

Even with this issue, you’ve created a beautiful store and something that looks incredibly professional. You should be proud of what you’ve created and built thus far. I’m hopfully that reaching out to our Live Team yields you with some additional information, and gets this situation closer to a resolution for you.

Yes we have done this with shopify’s support. The search bar (icon) was already there in desktop version and it was hiding when the screen was below a certain amount of pixels. Nothing special. And some css because it was of screen.
