Help! International shipping not getting added and no shipping address

Hi,

We created our Shopify shop a few months ago. We have added free domestic shipping (US based) and I added several options (USPS and UPS) for the calculated international shipping. We are not currently trying to push or advertise our website and are but want to very soon. So far we have had a few international orders and I have had to refund all of them because it doesn’t add shipping or even ask for a shipping address. I have had family attempt to check out with an international address to see what they were encountering and they didn’t get prompted for a shipping address or added shipping.

I’ve searched the shipping tutorials and forums but am mostly coming across information about costs and basic how to. We already ship a lot of international orders through Etsy I just need Shopify to work at check out!

I’m sure I’m missing something stupid here. Please help!

Is this happening on all orders? Or only on international orders?

My reason for asking is that, if it’s happening across the board, your products may not be recognized as physical products (like a digital product). When that happens, Shopify assumes that, because they don’t have physical properties, they don’t require shipping. The shipping calculation page is bypassed and the customer is taken straight from the cart page to the payment page.

To check this,

  1. Go into your Products settings in the Shopify admin.
  2. Click on a product that isn’t triggering shipping.
  3. Scroll through the settings to the ‘Shipping’ section.
  4. Look for the check box for ‘This is a physical product’

If the box is not checked, you will need to check it, then ensure that your product has a weight, which is required for live carrier rates. Repeat that process for every product of concern.

However, if this issue is only happening on international orders, and domestic orders are working as expected, then the reason is likely something else. You may need to contact Shopify support for assistance.
