Hide the price in search engine listing

Topic summary

A user running Dawn theme version 15.3.0 wants to hide product prices from search engine listings (as shown in a screenshot), while the store is still under development and product details are being finalized.

Key Technical Issue:

  • Even if prices are hidden on the actual page, Google extracts pricing from structured data (LD+JSON) on product pages
  • Removing price data from structured markup would invalidate it, potentially causing Google to penalize the pages or stop treating them as product pages
  • Price fields are required for valid product schema markup

Proposed Solution:
One commenter suggests completely removing structured data from the pages as the best available option, though this comes with SEO trade-offs.

Status: The discussion remains open with no definitive resolution. The user has shared their store URL and is seeking a way to toggle price visibility on/off as needed.

I’m using Dawn version 15.3.0

The price shows, so how do I hide it?
Please advise. Thank you.

Hi @Klights ,

Could you please share your Store URL and password (if applicable) so that I can review it and provide you with the appropriate solution code?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks!

Even though the price is not shown on your page, Google pulls it from the structured data on the product page (LD+JSON).

If you remove the price part from the structured data, then it will become invalid markup and Google will penalize your pages.

price field is required for product data to be valid.

Google would stop treating this page as a product page because of this.

Why are you hiding prices?

As far as I know, your best bet would be to remove the structured data from this page completely.

We are hiding the prices because we are still working on the pages and the owner is still working on the products. I hope there is a way to hide and display them when we need to.
