Hey,

You can manually change the button text globally in Online Store → Themes → Edit default theme content → scroll to Products section → change Add to cart text to “Pre-order”. Then enable Continue selling when out of stock for each variant in Products → select product → Inventory.

Keep in mind this changes the button text for all products, not just out-of-stock items, and doesn’t switch automatically based on inventory.

You can enable pre-orders by creating a custom “Pre-order” button using your product template. Edit the product in your Shopify admin and set the inventory to “Continue selling when out of stock.” Then, change your product page button text in your theme editor or add an app, such as Timesact for the automation.
