im looking to add a contact form to 3 certain products on my store
(when they choose these 3 products, at checkout id like them to fill out a contact form)
shopify help says it has to do with coding
is anyone able to help me ?

We suggest you to add the form to the product page itself to get the details. You can’t add any fields in checkout. Kindly let me know if you need help in adding fields on your product page.

I believe what Shopify Support is trying to say here is that you can only set up a contact form in product page. Since Shopify prevents outside intervention for its checkout page, it’s unable to make adjustments for the page.
However, there are other ways that you can collect data from the specific product pages like you mentioned. One of it is that you can use a third party app to create a contact form and show only on those 3 specific products. My recommendation, you can check out this app “Contact Form” by Qikify with Free plan to create contact form.
Other options are, you can search “contact form” on Shopify App Store for other similar applications. Or, you can hide a Shopify Expert to help you develop your custom contact form.
