How can I add an icon to the Dawn theme navigation?

I’m looking for a way to add an icon (like a small ~35x35px png image) to the navigation of my site (Dawn theme). More specifically, I want to add a gift card icon instead of titling the list item “Gift Card”. I tried titling it with an tag, but it didn’t register as HTML and just wrote out the img tag lol… I’ve found a few tutorials and code snippets but none for this theme. Does anybody have any tips?
