How can I alter my page's meta title for better SEO results?

Hello Shopify Help Center,

I’m having a little trouble with SEO, could you please help me with this?

I need to change the page meta title, but my editorial content in the Shopify backend does not match the search engine results. Let’s say my brand name is “Beauty” and my editorial content is “Beauty Official Site | Luxury Skincare”, but my search for the brand term comes up with the following results, “Beauty Official Site | Luxury Skincare - beauty”. Also, this happens to other pages, whether my editorial content contains {brand name} or not, the search results will appear as “############## - {brand name}”.

I’m not sure if it’s the default setting when building the site, but I’d like to remove this default and customize meta titles. Many thanks for your help and support.

@nueve can you be more specific about which page home, product, collection or you are talking about Shopify pages?

Hi @nueve ,

You can follow the below steps to remove the shop name from your meta titles. It requires code editing so you may duplicate your theme before changing it to be on the safe side.

  1. From your Shopify Admin, navigate to online store > themes > actions > edit code
  2. In your theme.liquid file, find the____ tag (press CTRL + F or command + F on Mac to search)
  3. Replace the entire line of the tag with the following code:

  1. Hit save

  2. Finally, you can check the result with https://metatags.io/

I hope it helps.

Thank u for your steps. I used Checkbot and found that the meta title was set successfully.

But unfortunately it still doesn’t match the search engine results. I have set the title in my preferences to “{shop name} | Wedding, Engagement & Fashion Jewelry”, but the search results are titled {shop name}. I used the browser checker and found the code {shop name} | Wedding, Engagement & Fashion Jewelry

Sorry for your confusion. It’s my store homepage. I saved the settings in Shopify preferences, but it still doesn’t work. I mean, it’s not consistent with search engine results.

Thanks. I think it’s still a code problem.

Hi @nueve ,

If I’ve understood your query correctly, you’re saying that when you search for your store in Google you’re seeing Meta data that isn’t to your liking.

You mentioned that you’ve edited this by going to Online Store > Preferences

However, you’ve said that it still isn’t reflected in Google. Could you please submit your sitemap to Google, just to help Google along?

You also mentioned that it may be a code issue. Have you made any code edits to your store or added any third-party apps that you think might be affecting your metadata like this?

It’s great that you’re so mindful of your SEO as well! Have you had a look at our Ecommerce SEO 101 Video Series? And are you conducting keyword research to help boost your store’s ranking?

I’d actually love to know more about your store to be able to help you further. From what I gather, you’ve started a beauty product business - is that correct? Have you taken inspiration from other businesses doing similar? We’ve got a case study you could use to help you plan your journey.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi @Andrew_8 ,

Thanks for your links.

Yes, I have submitted my sitemap to Google before. I only made one change to the title code, and I did not use a third-party plugin to modify the metadata. By the way, the original code about title as below

Now the code is as follows

Would it be possible for you to check this code? Thanks a lot.

Hi @Gods_Chosen ,

Could you please be more detailed? What is the default link you are referring to?

Thanks for the additional context. We’re not code experts in support, so I cannot really dig into that myself but I see that @AvadaCommerce has given you a reply that you marked as a solution, so I’m glad that has been resolved for you!

If you do have further questions about anything else I’m happy to help. How is business going otherwise? And what kind of marketing strategies are you employing to attract consumers to your store?
