How can I apply tax exemptions for school orders online?

Hi,

I’m not looking to make a customer tax-exempt on a one by one basis, but looking for a way (as google failed me) to do the following.

My client sells goods to schools and individuals.

Schools need to have the vat taken off their online orders as they are exempt from the 23%.

Does anyone know how to do this? or can you point me in the direction of online help?

I tried “Include or exclude tax based on your customer’s country” but for whatever reason, it doesn’t show on my site.

Hey, @HeadGeek

Happy to help, just so I understand things fully: You have a client who purchases places orders on your store, from there, that client then sells the products to schools, who are tax exempt. So you want that client of yours to not be charged tax when they place an order on your store?

You can set up a tax exemption at the customer level so that that particular customer (email) doesn’t have tax charged to them when ordering. We have a guide on that here.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Hi, what he needs is when a customer visits his online store, one of two things happen.

  1. for the ordinary folks visiting - they have to pay the vat (tax) on the product.
  2. for the school that places an order on his website - the vat (tax) is taken off at the checkout.

A bit like a select case statement

if A is picked - that is the vat

if B is picked - that vat is taken off…

Gotcha, @HeadGeek

So in that case, my suggestion above would apply. He would have the school create their own customer account on his store, then he can set up a tax exemption at the customer level so that that particular customer doesn’t have tax charged to them when ordering. We have a guide on that here.
