How can I boost organic SEO for my E-cigarette store?

Topic summary

An e-cigarette store owner seeks help improving organic SEO after nearly a year of minimal sales. The store recently reset SEO elements (alt text, meta descriptions, link building) and updated its theme for better speed and appearance, but analytics show limited improvement despite regular blogging efforts. Paid advertising isn’t an option due to search engine restrictions on vaping products.

Community responses include:

  • One user offered a free SEO audit, which was delivered via a Notion document with specific recommendations
  • Multiple SEO app representatives provided detailed feedback focusing on:
    • Page speed optimization (PageSpeed Insights showed poor performance on both desktop and mobile)
    • Image optimization (missing alt text on some images, need for keyword-rich filenames)
    • On-page SEO improvements (title tags, meta descriptions, header structure, URL optimization)
    • Content strategy (comprehensive posts 1,500+ words, regular updates, multimedia integration)
    • Technical fixes (broken links, structured data/schema markup)

Key takeaway: Contributors emphasized that SEO results typically require 3-6 months of consistent effort. Several offered their paid apps with trial periods or discounts to assist with ongoing optimization.

In major need of some guidance on how to improve the SEO of an E-cigarette store - www.sweetgeezvapes.

The store has been active for very nearly a year now with very minimal sales. We have been hit hard with many issues recently across the board including having to reset everything SEO based such as alt text, link building, meta descriptions and more. We are pretty much back on track with most of this except for image alt text which we are working on. We are working on producing blogs on a regular basis now too. However, analytics show there hasn’t been too much improvement after re-implementing the lost SEO tricks and implementing regular blogs. It’s understandable that it takes time but it’s been a year now without the customer base to show for it.

Recently, my developer updated the theme in which speed and SEO have improved, he has created an eye-catching store too (much better than the previous theme). However, gaining customers has been a huge problem over the past year and we are running out of options and quite frankly money! Search engines do not accept our products to be involved in paid advertising so everything SEO has to be organic or via social media.

Is anyone available to have an in depth look at the website and iron out any discrepancies on the website impacting SEO? Any guidance of what needs to be improved too would be great!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Luke

Hello @sweetgeezvapes ,

I am Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot. Hope you are having a good day.

Improving the SEO of an e-cigarette Shopify store can be challenging, especially since paid advertising is not an option. Here are a few suggestions that may help.

  1. Keyword Research
Conduct keyword research to identify the most relevant and high-traffic keywords related to e-cigarettes. Use these keywords to optimize your website’s content, meta descriptions, and titles. Make sure to avoid keyword stuffing, as this can hurt your SEO.

  2. On-Page Optimization
Optimize your website’s on-page elements, including headings, images, alt text, and internal linking. Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly, as mobile devices account for a significant portion of online traffic.

  3. Content Marketing
Produce high-quality, relevant, and informative content related to e-cigarettes. Consider writing blog posts, guides, and reviews to provide value to your audience and increase engagement on your website.

  4. Social Media Marketing
Promote your e-cigarette store on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Use social media to engage with your audience, build relationships, and drive traffic to your website.

  5. Local SEO
If you have a physical location, optimize your website for local SEO by including your address, phone number, and business hours. Also, make sure to claim your business on Google My Business and other local directories.

  6. Link Building
Build high-quality backlinks to your website from reputable sources such as industry publications, blogs, and directories. Avoid low-quality backlinks, as these can hurt your SEO.

  7. Ensure your website is mobile-friendly
Make sure your website is optimized for mobile devices, as more and more people are using their smartphones to shop online.

  8. Monitor your website’s performance
Use Google Analytics to track your website’s performance, including traffic, bounce rates, and conversion rates. This will help you to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions.

  9. Leverage email marketing
Use email marketing to stay in touch with your customers and offer them exclusive promotions and discounts. This can help to drive repeat business and increase customer loyalty.

  10. Optimize product descriptions
Ensure that your product descriptions are unique, detailed, and include relevant keywords. Use bullet points to make it easier for customers to read.

It’s important to keep in mind that SEO takes time and effort to yield results. Be patient, and consistent, and focus on providing value to your audience. Good luck!

Gina

Hello Sweetgeezvapes,

First of all, I loved your website! Fantastic theme and pop of colors.

I can assure you that by employing SEO efforts in the right direction, you can see some impressive results in better ranking on the search engine results page (SERP) and improved organic traffic.

Here are some tips:

1. Improve the Page Speed of the Website

I used PageSpeed Insights to check your website’s speed on desktop and mobile devices, and here are the results:

It is evident that the speed of your website is not so good.

You shall understand that the speed of the website is preferred by search engine crawlers and users alike, and to perform better on SERP, you shall have a better website speed on desktop as well as mobile devices. So, here are some tips:

  • Compress the file size of the images (without hampering their visual quality)
  • Implement AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), which is an open-source HTML function that allows Google to save these pages in cached versions on the server and reduce their loading time on mobile devices
  • Remove unused JavaScript from your website
  • Implement lazy loading for advertisements or other unimportant content on the website.

2. Add Alt Text in Images

While you have added the alt text for the images, there are a few images on the website that are missing the alt text values.

Please closely assess the website to identify the images missing alt text. You can use the SEOKart app for the same.

3. Add Keywords in the File Name and Alt Text of Images

You shall ensure to add a keyword in the file name and alt text of the images, which helps the images to rank better on SERP, and enhances the visibility of the website on search engines.

4. Submit ‘XML’ Sitemap to Google Search Console

The ‘XML’ Sitemap makes it easy for search engine crawlers to navigate the website and index every page and meta tag. So, if you have a doubt that the search engine crawlers might be having an issue finding different pages of your website, then this is the most effective solution.

5. Enable Rich Snippets

Rich Snippets help in optimizing the website’s listing, which helps the website stand out on SERP. This improves the click-through rate of the website.

Thus, enabling rich snippets, like Product Markup Snippet (with values: product name, description, price, availability, etc.) can help attract the right traffic to the website and improve the overall conversion rate of the website.

6. Carry out SEO Audit

SEO Audit facilitates the user to ascertain various SEO-related issues on the website and fix and optimize the SEO factors to improve the ranking of the website on SERP, get a high volume of traffic to the website, and improve conversions of the website.

You can also integrate the SEO app, SEOKart into your Shopify store, which is an all-in-one SEO app. You can install the app for free and benefit from its features. Some of the key features of the app include:

  1. SEO Audit: It helps you to carry out an in-depth audit to assess the 15 SEO factors on the website. Thereafter, you can edit and optimize the factors to improve the SEO score of the website. As there is an integration of ChatGPT with the app, you get AI-generated suggestions to improve the factors.
  2. Bulk Optimizer: You can optimize different pages on the website in bulk with the help of this feature. All you have to do is customize the templates on the basis of diverse labels, like product name, description, SKU, and URL, and optimize the pages in bulk.
  3. Image Optimizer: Compress the file size without hampering its visual quality, and add keyword-rich file names and alt texts for the images on the website with this feature.
  4. Rich Snippets: This feature allows the users to enable rich snippets for the website. You can add Product Markup Snippet, FAQs Snippet, and Home Page Snippet for your website with this feature.
  5. URL Editor: This feature basically allows you to optimize the URLs on the website, you can add keywords or reduce the length of the URL, and then add a new URL to redirect the traffic from the old URL to the new one. Also, there is a ‘404 Fixer’ option, which allows the user to assess the website and identify all the broken links on the website. You can fix this by redirecting the traffic to the correct URL.
  6. Page Speed: You can gain insights about the speed of your website, different pages, and categories of the website on desktop and mobile devices. You can also pull up the historical data and ascertain the level of improvement in the speed of your website after the integration of the app.
  7. Google Analytics: There is an integration of GA4 or Google Analytics 4 with the app. The app pulls up the data from GA4, like revenues, traffic, orders, etc. generated from different channels and presents it visually in the form of graphs, diagrams, and charts to make it easy for the users to make comparisons.
  8. Rank Tracker: This feature enables the user to track the rank of the website on different keywords in a specific country, language, device, and search engine, and compare the rankings with three key competitors.

In addition to on-page SEO, the app enables the users to make data-driven decisions for the success of the business.

Hope it helped!
