How can I bulk translate image alt tags for improved SEO?

Hi! I am looking for a solution to bulk translate images or alt tags. We have 5000+ products, I have found several apps which allows to translate images but not in bulk. We target the Dutch and English market (expats) in the Netherlands and want unique alt tags or images for this as this is better for SEO.

Does anybody know a solution?

Hi there,

Did you ever discover a solution? After some recent searches I discovered you can edit the alt tag translations via your translations export file, but its very tedious. You have to figure out the image ID number given to the file according to shopify so you know which file you are editing (unless you previously inserted an alt tag in your original language, in which case maybe you can tell which image the csv file is referring to).

I’m hoping Shopify will integrate this into Translate and Adapt or via the image editor. They responded when Canadians needed HS Codes and Country of Origin info on the product pages, to keep up with shipping requirements. We need these translatable alt tags for a truly accessible experience and the current system requires hours and hours of work just to update our existing images with tags.

Please let me know if you came up with any solutions!

Yes there are apps now which you can use and you can easily translate it in Bulk.

Thanks for your response! It seems with the quantity of alt tags we’d have to pay for an app which isn’t sustainable for us at the moment. I’m hoping for a built in solution if there is one!

Unfortunately,

Shopify doesn’t offer a built-in feature to translate the alt text of the images. The only way to move to the paid app.
