How can I collaborate with Shopify as a Dutch-speaking influencer?

Topic summary

A Belgian content creator and entrepreneur seeks to establish a brand partnership with Shopify, specifically as a Dutch-speaking influencer. They note Shopify’s lack of Dutch-speaking influencer representation and want to move beyond the standard affiliate program to secure actual sponsorship deals.

Key Points:

  • The creator has been promoting Shopify organically for nearly 2 years and is active on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
  • They’re experiencing technical issues with their affiliate portal despite signing up
  • Community members suggest the standard affiliate program, but the creator clarifies they want direct brand deals, not just affiliate commissions

Resolution:

  • A Shopify community moderator (Imogen) provided a direct contact: press@shopify.com for collaboration inquiries with the Media Team
  • Other users note that while Shopify does sponsor deals with creators of various sizes, these partnerships typically aren’t publicly advertised
  • The discussion remains open regarding whether smaller influencers can secure direct brand deals versus using the standard affiliate system

Dear people at Shopify,
I’m a young entrepreneur, brand owner and content creator from Belgium. I have been using Shopify for nearly 2 years now and I love the service and have been promoting it to all my friends for free already!

When I look at your marketing strategy, I see that you regularly use influencers to promote shopify even further. But I see that you have almost no Dutch speaking influencers. Since I am becoming the biggest creator aimed at entrepreneurs in Belgium. I am convinced that I can be a valuable addition to your team of influencers. I am active on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Since I’m active on all these platforms, the ways of collaborating are very broad and there’s a lot we can do together. I would love to have a long term partnership with you!
Kind regards, Elijah Buchan

Hey Elijah,

I think you’d just need to signup/apply for the Shopify affiliate program: https://www.shopify.com/be/affiliates

If you’re approved, then you’ll get your own custom Shopify signup link, which you can then share in your content, and then whenever someone uses your link to open a paid Shopify store, you’ll make some money.

Hope the above helps! :slightly_smiling_face:

Cheers,

Stephen

Hey Stephen,
No I don’t mean to be just an affiliate, I would love to do actual brand
deals. Also my affiliate portal doesn’t work properly since a lot of people
have signed up and I haven’t received any benefits.
Let me know if you can get me in touch with the marketing department.

Cheers!
Elijah Buchan

Hey Elijah,

I’m not aware of any external-facing options for doing brand deals with Shopify. That’s not to say that Shopify doesn’t do these (I honestly don’t know if they do). You’d probably need to be a very large business/organization for them to consider a brand deal though. I’m not aware of any brand deals, but I don’t really follow that sort of stuff. The biggest promoter I’ve seen of Shopify is probably MrBeast from YouTube, and I believe he’s just using the same affiliate system that’s available to everyone (except he has a custom URL, instead of a randomly generated one).

If your affiliate signup link isn’t working, you should get in contact with Shopify directly. It is worth noting though that you don’t get paid merely for a signup – the referral actually has to purchase a paid monthly/yearly plan, in order for you to receive a payout from it. If the customer uses your link to signup for Shopify, but then never gets on a paid plan, you won’t receive a payout.

I wish you the best of luck with your business! :slightly_smiling_face:

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi there, @ElijahBuchan . Thank you for taking the time to reach out in the Shopify Community regarding your collaboration request. My name is Imogen. It’s good to meet you!

Just to be clear, I’m not a member of our Media Team, so I’m unable to provide you with any information regarding your request. However, I am here to provide you with an email address that you can use to reach out to our Media Team with your collaboration idea: press@shopify.com!

Feel free to send an email to that address! Hope that helps!

Hello Stephen,
I know for a fact that Shopify does loads of sponsor deals. Even with
smaller creators.
The problem is that there is no way to contact shopify directly, always
through a chatbot. Do you have any contact info of the shopify marketing
department, or Shopify in general?
Let me know! Thanks in advance
All the best, Elijah Buchan

I’ve been in your shoes, navigating the world of entrepreneurship with Shopify, and it’s great to hear you’ve found success with it too. Your passion for both your brand and Shopify shines through! It’s true, having influencers who speak the local language can make a huge impact. Just like how I stumbled upon Pandora Kaaki and her content, having someone like you representing the Dutch-speaking community could be a game-changer for Shopify.
