How can I connect international domains to my online store?

Topic summary

Connecting country-specific third-party domains to one Shopify store is the main issue. The store already uses a primary domain like example.com, and after adding German, Shopify routes visitors to example.com/de instead of the separate domain example.de.

A proposed solution is to use Shopify Payments with the international domains feature. This feature lets different domains map to different markets, for example:

In that setup, Germany can use EUR as the currency and German as the default language. With a compatible language switcher, changing language should send visitors to example.de rather than keeping them on example.com/de.

No separate Shopify store was confirmed as necessary. The discussion does not show a final resolution yet, but the suggested next step is to configure international domains by market and test the language-switch behavior.

Hi everyone,

I’am new on this community and it’s great. Need some assistance and hope someone can help me out.

Below you will find my issue.

I have several domain names with a third party, like

www.example.com

www.example.de

www.example.it … etc.

Need to connect these domain names to my shopify store. The first one was simple, and works fine.

Then I added the german language to my store. Shopify added this language to the domainname…

www.example.com/de

And here is my problem, I like to redirect it to www.example.de

When I tried this, it will direct to the primary domain .com/de

So, how to solve this or this not possible and do I need a separate shopify site??

Hope you can help me out,

Kind regards,

Mark Hart

Hi @Markiemark ,

Are you using Shopify Payments with the international domains feature?

If so you can use example.com to target the US (USD, or another market), and then setup example.de to target Germany (EUR) with German as the language default. When you do this with a compatible language switcher, switching the language will direct you to example.de instead of example.com/de
