I recently migrated my website from Wordpress to Shopify so that I can now manage it entirely from Shopify. I see it when I “preview” store, but cant find a way to edit it. Shopify keeps trying to make me start a new theme although my website is now there. I know I am probably doing something entirely wrong. The website I am trying to edit through Shopify is Loveyourskinlife.com
When you start a Shopify online store you are given a new online store with a domain ending in .myshopify.com. The online store has a default theme set up, but you would want to customize this so that the online store looks and functions the way you’d like. You can customize your Shopify online store using your Theme Editor. You can get to your Theme Editor by going to Online store > Themes > Customize in your Shopify Admin. You can also see a preview of your Shopify online store by clicking the eye icon beside where it says Online Store or by clicking the View your store button on the Online store > Themes page. More information on customizing your theme can be found on this page.
You can then connect or transfer your existing custom domain to Shopify so that it replaces your .myshopify.com domain. Once that’s done your Shopify online store would be shown to customers when they visit your custom domain. You can learn more about domains on this page.
Since you’ve recently migrated to Shopify I wanted to share the following resources to help you get started as well.
I was able to connect my website from Wordpress . When I view or preview, or go to my store, I am seeing my old website. I would like to be able to edit this site and do it from sopify.
I am given th eoption to customize my store and choose a theme, etc but my old site is already the store. How do I get it to a point of editing it. I looked at everythig and dont see that option.
How long ago did you connect your domain to Shopify? Did you follow these steps here to connect your domain? If so, when you go to your domain, loveyourskinlife.com, you should see your new Shopify online store instead of your old website. To preview your Shopify online store you will want to click the eye icon beside where it says Online store in your Shopify Admin.
Shopify enables you to create a new online store using the Shopify platform. You wouldn’t be able to edit your old website using Shopify, but you can connect your existing custom domain, loveyourskinlife.com, to your new Shopify online store. I’d recommend looking over this guide here for some helpful steps on how to migrate to Shopify.
wow, I may need to get someone to help me. This is harder than I thought. LOL
when I click “view my store” or" preview "I see my old website. If I make a new store, will it have the same domain as the one I transferred?
The main thing Im trying to do is edit and it wont let me edit the old one, but I think I could edit a new one. I just dont want to lose my domain wich has transferred.. Thanks for all the info. I may need to ask for some help.
When you click “View store” or “preview” are you still seeing your old website? How did you create your old website and how did you transfer your domain to Shopify?
Once you transfer your domain to Shopify you should see your Shopify website when visiting that domain. For example, if you had the domain “store.com” connected to another storefront and then you transfer it to Shopify, “store.com” should now show you your Shopify online store and it would no longer be connected to your old storefront.
If your old website wasn’t created through Shopify you wouldn’t be able to edit it using Shopify. In this case you would want to customize your Shopify storefront using your theme editor following this guide here.
