How can I effectively create and promote spice bundle discounts?

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner selling spice blends seeks advice on creating bundle discounts to increase average order value. They want to offer tiered discounts: 10% off for bundles of 4 or 6 spices, and 20% off for 10+ items, allowing customers to choose from ~30 available blends. They’re also interested in cart notifications showing how close customers are to qualifying for discounts.

App recommendations provided:

  • MultiVariants - Bulk Order: Enforces minimum/maximum quantity restrictions (e.g., must select exactly 6 items) but requires a separate app for discount application
  • Bundle Kit: Creates bundles as standalone Shopify products with automatic inventory management and sale price display
  • Fast Bundle: Offers “Mix and Match” functionality with tiered discount support and 24/7 support
  • NeatBundles: Allows customer selection of specific items within bundles, maintains inventory sync, supports translations/multi-currency, and currently offers free lifetime access for early adopters

Multiple respondents confirm tiered/volume discounts are common and effective strategies. The discussion remains open with no final decision indicated.

Hi Fellow Shopifiers.

Firstly can I just say Im a bit of silent in the background observer, mainly because I’m in awe of how brilliant the stores are and as Im starting out and still plucking up the courage to communicate? Now that’s out of the way I think I have been struggling long enough with this particular dilemma to increase the average purchase value with my store www.bigbangspices.co.uk.

I would like to either

  1. set up a specific product for a bundle of 4 spices and a bundle of 6 spices each giving a 10% discount on the whole order and for orders of 10+ offer 20% off. Allowing customers to select 4, 6, or 10 from any of the 30 odd spice blends I offer
  2. highlight in the cart that they are only X more bottles away from receiving 10% or 20% off the entire order

I have looked at a number of apps and would like to ask the community

  1. are the options above a good idea, is any idea better or should I consider something else
  2. are there any apps I can use to make this easier - I’m actually considering paying for an app.

Thanks

Hello @bigbangspices ,Have you got your solution? If you want your customer to buy a product in a bundle like a bundle of 4 or 6 then you can try the MultiVariants - Bulk order app.

With this app, you can sell your product in a particular number of bundles so that your customer can not buy more or less than your provided number of restrictions.

You can set the min and max quantity, so your customer must choose that quantity before going to the cart page. Suppose, your product has 10 different color variants and you want your customer to choose exactly 6 quantities from all those variants. So, if you set minimum and maximum quantities as 6, they can’t choose quantities more or less than 6. These restrictions can be set for the non-variant product also.

If you want, you can apply a discount on the cart that goes with your requirement using any other 3rd party app.

Additionally, through this app, you can apply restrictions for minimum-maximum quantities, predefined bundles, interval quantities, and limits on variants and orders that can be achieved.

Here is a Demo Product. here you can not go to the cart page without selecting 12. if you select more or less than 12 it won’t allow you to click on add to cart.

also, explore our Demo Store. You can try the app with 3 days of a free trial.

Hi @bigbangspices

This is Jun from Bundle Kit.

We think that this option is easier to achieve:

  1. set up a specific product for a bundle of 4 spices and a bundle of 6 spices each giving a 10% discount on the whole order and for orders of 10+ offer 20% off. Allowing customers to select 4, 6, or 10 from any of the 30 odd spice blends I offer

If you’d like to go in this direction, then our app is capable of meeting your needs. Bundle Kit bundles are built on top of normal Shopify products.

We have step-by-step instructions here: https://help.bundlekit.io/creating-a-multi-pack-bundle

The bundle inventory is automatically set based on the available inventories of the bundle item(s), including the inventories of the variants.

Proper quantity will also be taken out of the inventory of each bundle that is being purchased.

You can also display the price of the bundle as a sale price: https://help.bundlekit.io/displaying-bundle-price-as-a-sale-price

Let us know if you have any questions.

Your offer is common. I see this tiered discounts/volume pricing quite often. If you want to simplify the offers, you can break down each tier into separate offers.

Our app can support such offers. You can display all products on a single page and customers can select what they want in 1 place. For each tier, you can pair a discount code. The customers will be redirected to checkout with the applied discount. Here’s a sample bundle you can try: https://benny-test-store.myshopify.com/products/beanies-bundle-tiers-based-on-discount-code

Hi there! Ian here from Fast Bundle.
You’re absolutely not alone in feeling hesitant at first but you’ve done the hardest part by getting started and reaching out. Your idea is strong and very much in line with effective strategies for increasing average order value (AOV). Let’s break this down into key parts and go over the options clearly.

Several Shopify apps allow you to create flexible bundles from your existing products. Look for ones that support “Mix and Match” bundles and tiered discounts. Of course Fast Bundle can handle that for you  We have the exact type and you can check it out from our demo store.

Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions through details here or from our 24/7 live chat Support team!

Hey @bigbangspices

First off — just checked out your store and wow, your spice range looks amazing :hot_pepper:! I did notice, though, that when it comes to your bundles, customers don’t currently have the option to pick which specific spices they want included. That’s exactly where my app, NeatBundles, could help.

With NeatBundles, you can:

  • Let customers mix & match from a collection (e.g., your 30 spice blends).

  • Enforce rules like “Pick exactly 4 items” or “Choose 6 items from this step.”

  • Apply discounts automatically based on the bundle.

  • Keep inventory synced, since each spice is still added as its own line item at checkout.

In your case, it would be pretty straightforward:

  • Create one bundle for “Pick 4 spices” with a 10% discount.

  • Create another for “Pick 6 spices” with a 20% discount.
(And if you wanted to extend it, you could even set up the 10+ option in a similar way.)

For each bundle you create, NeatBundles generates a new bundle product in your Shopify store. When customers go through it, their chosen spices get tied back to that product and added to the cart — meaning stock levels stay perfectly in sync.

I just pushed a big update too: the app now supports translations, multi-currency, and has a clear analytics page so you can track performance. And best bit? It’s free for a limited time, and if you sign up soon, you’ll lock in free access forever. :tada:

Hope this helps you spice things up (sorry, couldn’t resist ).

Hi, if you haven’t found the right answer yet, I’d like to help you with another solution.

I understand that your are wanting:

  • Customers should be able to choose any combination from your ~30 spice blends.

  • Discount tiers would be:

    • 4 or 6 bottles → 10% off the entire order

    • 10+ bottles → 20% off the entire order

  • You also want the cart to show progress messaging, e.g. “You’re only X bottles away from 10% / 20% off”.

If i understand right, you can using bundle builder feature (aka build your own feature) from 3rd party app. One option you can consider is BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell.
