I want to reduce the padding in my header so that the logo is moved closer to the left of the page and the rest of the site nav items move towards the right. Ideally I’d like reduce the current padding width by about half.

If you are unsure about which theme is live on your online store, you can navigate to the Theme Editor and select the three dots located towards the top left of the page. I took a screenshot from my test store to show you the section I am referring to:
