I am not on the Plus plan. I would like to hire a developer outside the US. I have 2 options, give the collaborator access or staff access. The issue is I want to give them access to only 1 specific app. I CANNOT give them access to all apps that have financials, client lists, orders… How do I restrict access to a developer or someone to only one specific app? I know I can do that in the Plus plan but there must be a way in the standard $79 month plan. How can Shopify not have this feature standard as it’s a huge liability!!!
Hi @Pascal88 ,
Nick here from Shopify. Great question!
With a developer I would always lean and advise you to go the collaborator route when adding them to your store to do work.
You are also correct in saying that it only Plus stores have the ability to select particular apps they can see when given collaborator access as per the information guide Shopify has here.
In saying that though, only the account owner can approve paid apps and app charges, I know this isn’t ideal or completely what you’re looking for though.
I will however add this feature request so the development team can become aware of it for future reference!
This is a MAJOR show stopper and a WARNING to all shopify store owners!!! If you outsource work on your site and are not on the $2000/month Shopify plan, any developer that you give access to your apps can access all the app data in them. He can also delete any app so if things don’t go well and they decide to retaliate or simply take all your data, there isnt anything you can do about it except remote all access. You cannot limit them to only a specific app.
Nick, Your only solution is to force users to upgrade to $2000/month plan which is ridiculous. What Shopify stores owners need to understand is that when they grant a third party access to the app section, they also expose all their financials and client data to that third party. With so many financials and clients apps, that’s more the probably than the exception.
Shopify has known about this issue for years and don’t seem to care because the risk is between the store owner and the third party apps. Shopify is facilitating potential fraud to push their store owners to upgrade.
