How can I set a social share image for a specific page on Dawn?

Topic summary

A user seeks to set a custom social share image for a specific Page (not a product or collection) in Dawn theme, but cannot find this option in the page or template settings.

Initial responses miss the mark:

  • Suggestions to use “featured image” sections or site-wide social sharing settings in Online Store Preferences don’t address page-specific customization
  • An SEO app is mentioned but focuses on products, not Pages

Workaround identified:

  • Another user references a solution from a separate thread: add a metafield to the page for the image, then use Liquid code to check and display that metafield
  • This approach reportedly works but requires custom code implementation

Paid alternatives:

  • A dedicated app exists for this functionality at $15.99/month

Community sentiment:

  • Multiple participants express surprise and frustration that page-specific social share images aren’t a built-in Shopify feature, noting it’s standard on competing platforms like Squarespace

Status: The discussion remains open with a technical workaround available, but no native Shopify solution exists.

How do I set a social share image for a specific page? (Not a product or collection, and not site wide.)

I have a regular Page with a custom template, on Dawn (Shopify OS 2.0) and I still don’t see a way to

Hi @thefourthplace

To set a social share image, Open the page and upload the image in the featured image section.

Where do I do that? This is a standard Page, not a product. I don’t see anywhere on the Page or the custom template to add a Featured Image.

I am attaching screen shots of the config for the Page, and the Template the page uses. I don’t see a way to set a Featured Image. Am I just staring at something and not seeing, is it buried, or is it not available for this type of page?

Hey @thefourthplace ,

Here’s our tutorial for setting your social share image. You need to access your Online Store Preferences and navigate to the Social Sharing Image section. Here you can edit and add both page titles and descriptions which are important for SEO and meta descriptions.

Additionally, be sure to add your logo and branding to relevant areas such as your

  • Header > Logo (preferred)
  • Theme settings > Checkout > Logo

This is where Shopify pulls from in the event that a logo fallback image is required.

Also, consider adding you brand assets into your Shopify admin if you haven’t already. This is a great way to unify your brand across multiple sales channels and interfaces. You can designate everything from logos to color schemes.

Hope that helps!

You can use an SEO app like SPO. After installing our code snippet, the social meta tags are overwritten by ours. It allows you to set a custom page per product, collection, or page.

Thanks for the assistance, but that’s not what I am asking.

I am asking about setting a social share image for a specific page, not the default one.

I’m really surprised this isn’t a built in feature. It’s been possible on Squarespace and other platforms as a free basic feature forever.

It looks like your app offers “bulk edit product link preview”. As I said in my post, I am asking about Pages, not Products. Can your app do that without paying $15.99 per month extra?

I’m looking for that too Ian. Had any luck?

Still not resolved, but there is a paid app available - which means it can be done, and agree that Shopify should make this a standard feature, really important!

I found the answer in another thread here…

You have to add a metafield to your page for the image and then use the liquid code to check the metafield for the image. It works. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m astonished that this isn’t a baked in feature in Shopify.
