Hello Jason,
First of all thankyou for your explanation, I set a discount offer of buy X and get Y and did everything right, but the offer is not showing in cart section,
HI! just wondering if this Buy 2 Get 1 free will work if a customer buys multiple âsetsâ of 3 for 2 in a single transaction?
For example in a single transaction itâs possible people may buy 2 and get one free; 4 and get 2 free; 6 and get 3 free etc. and more.
Is this possible?
Thanks!
Felicia
Hey, Felicia!
To clarify, are you referring to discount codes or automatic discounts? Also, how are your âsetsâ structured? Are you using a bundling app or are your sets simply standalone products that can be purchased individually? How the discount works really depends on how these sets were created.
If youâre simply referring to individual products, then yes, this would be possible. In fact, I created a âBuy 2, Get 1 Freeâ discount code to test this out here on my end and I can confirm that when I add 6 products to the cart and enter the discount code, 2 of them become free. I also created an automatic discount with the same conditions and received the same results.
I encourage you to create either a discount code or automatic discount on your end and then proceed through the checkout to test the functionality. You donât need to actually make a purchase to find out whether the discount works successfully; you should simply see the discount reflected in the checkout without moving forward through the payment stage. Keep in mind that discounts can always be disabled or edited, so thereâs no need to worry if you make a mistake!
I hope this helps clear things up. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks Julie!
This is the perfect solution and works really well. So happy with Shopify as a platform thank you.
Felicia
So glad to hear it, Felicia! Thanks for your update.
As you continue working on your discounts, I just wanted to pass along our blog post, â19 Ways to Use Offers, Coupons, Discounts, and Deals to Generate More Salesâ. There are a ton of awesome tips in there to help you use discounts to drive sales and customer loyalty, including some suggestions on how you can promote them. This blog post also contains a few examples of successful promotional campaigns to help give you some ideas for your own. I think youâll find it quite useful!
Feel free to let me know what you think.
Hi,
Iâve the same problem, it shows âMYCODEXYZ discount code isnât valid for the items in your cartâ Could you help me? my store is hydroponicsclub.myshopify.com and my code is RAPIDSTACK1
I try to use the option : spend $$ and get one gift.
Thanks
Hey, @AndyDR1 !
Thanks for sharing the link to your store and the discount code you created. Iâd love to test this out here on my end, but Iâll just need a bit more information before I can do so.
First, did you create this discount code through the Discounts section in your Shopify admin, or are you using an app? Are certain products only eligible for this discount code? Whatâs the minimum dollar amount required for this discount?
Also, I noticed that you shared two separate codes, one being MYCODEXYZ and the other being RAPIDSTACK1. Can you please confirm which discount code is to be used? It would also be super helpful if you could share a screenshot of the discount you created within your Shopify admin. This will allow me to see how the discount was set up before testing it in the checkout here on my end.
As a side note, if you are looking to have a product automatically added to the customersâ cart as a âfree giftâ, then I would suggest looking into an app like Sales Motivator or Free Gifts by Secomapp. Both of these apps will allow you to automatically add specific products to the cart based on specific conditions, like a minimum order value. If this is what youâre looking for, then I think either of these apps will be a good fit for you!
With a bit more information, Iâd also be happy to test out the discount code you created here on my end.
Looking forward to your response!
Thanks for your answer, here I leave the printscreen of my discounts, I have tried 2 methods and none works. the first is the code RAPIDSTACK1 and the other is an automatic discount (gift).
Thanks for the proposal of the applications, but for the moment I would like to use the functionalities that shopify offers me before purchasing a new application. I would appreciate very much if you can help me.
Regards,
Thanks Julie,
Could see my last message.
Regards,
Thanks for the screenshots! Iâd love to dive in and see whatâs going on here, but unfortunately Iâm not able to see the details of these discounts. Not to worry, though! Letâs just gather a bit more information.
Based on the last screenshot you shared, it looks like the products you added to your cart may have not been the same products associated with this particular discount code. If you click the RAPIDSTACK1 discount code (shown in the first screenshot you shared), youâll be able to see the details of this discount, including the products that this discount can be applied towards. Feel free to share a screenshot of that page or simply let me know which products are specified there.
It would also be helpful if you could do the same for the automatic discount; I tried adding three different products to the cart and it looks like the price on two of the items didnât change, which indicates that I may have added the wrong products. If you can let me know which products or collections both of these discounts can be applied to, that would be great.
I should also mention that the Community Forums are not a live support channel, so if you need immediate assistance, it would be a good idea to reach out to our Support team via live chat here. Iâm happy to continue helping here, but if this is something youâd like resolved urgently, this would definitely be the way to go.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Hi @Allan ,
Thank you so much for the workarounds that you have presented. Let´s see if this works for us!
You mentioned that there is a feature request that has been submitted for this to be implemented? Where can I vote for it and what is the status for a possible implementation?
Best,
B B
Hey, @BioBunnies !
Julie here from Shopify Support; Iâm just stepping in for Jason.
I appreciate your interest in having products automatically added to the cart with BOGO-type discounts and I can definitely see how this would be a great feature to have. We do have a system in place for sending feature requests to our developers, and Iâve just added your name to the list. While I donât have an answer as to if or when this will be implemented, I can say that the more feedback we get, the more attention we can bring to requests like this. I suggest keeping an eye on our changelog in the meantime, as we regularly announce platform updates there.
By the way, did you get a chance to take advantage of any of those workarounds? Iâm curious to know how that went!
Hi Julie!
Thank you for your reply.
Let´s hope that this feature will be implemented soon :). We are trying this out now with a workaround and are just advertising on with a Hero Image and a subsequent segment explaining how it works. So far its going well!
HI,
I was just reading the response to the question re discounts and noticed at the end the mention that the discount always applies to the cheaper item in the cart.
Can this be changed?
I just added a discount to a certain collection - Buy 1 get one 15% cheaper and noticed it was the cheaper items getting the reduction which isnât what I wantedâŚ
hope you can help!
This is the collection I am referring to

This thread already explains how to create a BOGO discount, but as many of you have stated, it requires the customer to add the items manually.
Many customers wonât do this, get confused, and then leave your store.
There are several apps that make this more visible, adding the item to the cart or product page:
- Discount Ninja
- Automatic Discount & Gift
- Free Gifts by Secomapp
Here are some example screenshots:
Check out my full review and comparison of all these apps here.
Best of luck with your store :)!
Hi,
This solution is not working for me.
Hello Jason
I would like my shoppers to see the offer " Buy One Get One Free"
I created an automatic discount but how would shoppers know that they need to add two products to the cart to get one free?
How do I create a product description that shows discounts, but not be part of the subscription?
Thank you
Hello, So I followed the way to discount codes and its working just perfectly with my store.
The one thing I wanted was to add a text between the Options picker and Add to cart button saying : Buy x get y free and so on. But as I am adding the text in edit code it gets applied to all of the products whereas I want it to display for a single product.
I would be glad if anyone could help me out with a solution to this. I have been trying to solve this issue since so many days. Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Hi Jason,
Thanks for your explanation for Buy 2 Get discount. In this type of discount we have to communicate to the customer, That for abc products you can select the xyz product to avail the discount. I am looking for a way that for this type of discount customer select the abc products and xyz (free product) product automaticaly selected at the checkout as free procuct and we do not have to communicate to the customer for such offers.
Any help/suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Kamran
@Kamran you can do as suggested before and/or try some apps.
If you want the automatic discount to actually be automatic (eg. add free/dicounted product to cart automatically when another product is added), it needs to be done in the code. Some conditions have to be checked with liquid and javascript (such as verify if the free product is not already added in cart, if the BOGO condition is met etc.). So if previous tips do not suit you, youâll have to hire someone if you want to directly modify your theme as I explained.
