I’m wondering if there’s a way or an app that can help me create and track Parent/Child products in Shopify. Here is the example:
I sell beer, it comes in a case of 4 x 6 packs. I’d like to sell the beer both in the 6 pack format and as individual cans. With systems I’ve worked with in the past, I could create a “parent” item in the system, in this case the 6 packs, and a “child” item that, when rung up, breaks one of the six packs into 6 individual items in order to keep inventory correct.
For further clarity: I receive from my supplier 4 x 6 packs of beer. I put 3 of the 6 packs on the shelf as 6 packs, and then break up one six-pack to sell as individual cans of beer. When I sell a single can of this beer, I’d like inventory to reflect that we have 3 x 6 packs in inventory and 5 individual cans for accuracy. Is this a possibility with Shopify or is there an app that can help facilitate.
I’ve thought about creating two separate items and receiving them into inventory separately (IE I recieve that case as 3 x 6 packs and 6 x individual cans as different line items on the PO), but this can cause inventory issues as the numbers get bigger (IE I’m tracking 15 cases I’ve received that sell as both singles and 6 packs fairly quickly).
