Hi, I am from Lebanon and I have registered a business in the UK as an LTD using an agent which also provides a UK address to use when registering the business. My problem is that I don’t have a proof of UK address that is provided by the agent because I don’t pays any bills, they only can provide me with a letter that indicate that I own this address.
This is not a virtual address but a physical address. I can provide proof of my home address, not the UK business address with my identity on it OR the letter from the agent showing that I own the UK address as a proof for the business address.
I’d like to share some info with you here on the documentary requirements for using Shopify Payments in the UK and what document types are accepted for those requirements.
In terms of identity documents, we accept:
Passport
Driver license
Resident permit
Citizen Card
Electoral ID
Validate UK
For personal address documents, an address verification document must show the individual’s personal name and address.
In terms of personal address documents, we accept:
Utility Bill - Must be dated and cannot be older than 6 months.
Statement from a financial institution - Must be dated and cannot be older than 6 months.
Driver’s License (If this was already submitted as photo ID, it cannot be used a second time as Proof of Address.)
Government-issued letter
Solicitors letter
Council or housing association documentation
Benefits Agency documentation
Electoral Register entry
NHS Medical Card
GP letter of registration with the surgery
I know from experience that in terms of Shopify Payments documentary requirements that the proof of address is almost always a hard requirement as this is used as proof that you’re actually conducting business in the country in question.
So after reading what you have said, I have 2 thing that still not clear.
1- You only mentioned the documents required for proof of address of my personal address, does that mean that I do not need to provide proof of business address? (which is the main problem I am facing)
2- Does Bank Statements fall under the category: “Statement from a financial institution”?
This is a newly created online business that I am building at the moment, I will be selling a variety of product for sport lovers mainly online.
I checked in with our escalated team internally on the further queries you raised here.
For your personal address, this would be any of the accepted document types showing where you live personally.
For your business info, any business association document you have would have the business address on it so would be all they need in that regard.
They also confirmed that a bank statement would be considered a statement from a financial institution.
I would recommend that you proceed with applying to use Shopify Payments and provide the documentation you do have available, so our team can review this and make a decision based on the specifics of your case.
Hey don, hope you are well. I want to know that inorder to give proof of address for shopify payments. Will my wise bank statement (having business address) work and will i get approved as you have mentioned that bank statement do work for address proof
If you’re unable to verify your UK business address for Shopify Payments due to lack of utility bills, you’re not alone — Shopify typically requires strong proof like:
A recent utility bill
Lease agreement
Or an official government letter with your name and UK address
Unfortunately, a letter from a business address agent is often not accepted, even if it’s a physical address. Shopify wants documentation that ties you personally to the UK address.
