How can one SKU's inventory be split across different gift sets?

Hi - i’m looking to find a way where by one SKU’s inventory can be split or pulled into other products.

For example we have 5 x SKU ‘A’ in stock.

And want it to feature in different gift set bundles.

Each gift set has a different name and content to match audience -
Gift set 1
Gift set 2
Gift set 3
Gift set 4
Gift set 5

SKU ‘A’ is the only element where inventory is allocated. All other items within do not carry the need for inventory. This scenario above would mean i’d need to allocate just x1 SKU ‘A’ to each gift set, and once I’ve sold that gift set, it will be out of stock, although i would still have SKU ‘A’ stock available, just allocated to other gift sets.

Is there a way that all the Gift Sets, could pull the inventory from the one SKU ‘A’?

So in affect all show as being x5 in stock, and when sold, adjust as a group?

many thanks

Hi

This is a common issue for our users where they have a master stock product which is then linked to multiple other products. The way to manage inventory is to bundle each product or variation that uses the master SKU. As Shopify doesn’t have native bundles you would need to use a bundle app to achieve this.

Our bundle app has 2 main features that would help you in this set up:

1. Inventory Management

Bundleup lets you connect up products to correct SKUs and we then update their inventory based on the component stock level. So if your scenario all 5 gift sets would show as stock of 5 if the inventoried SKU is 5. When one sells they will all update accordingly.

2. Order Fulfilment

When you sell one of the gift sets the master stock level won’t reduce automatically. What Bundleup does is update the order post purchase by replacing the order line with the component SKUs as order lines which then reduces stock. This then feeds into point 1 above where it updates all linked products.

We also offer a bulk csv file upload option so it is quicker to map all your gift sets to correct SKUs.
