Hello Shopify-Community,
I would like to know more about what happens, if there is a new Version of the Dawn-Theme available on Github. (For example like now Dawn v1.1.0) Can I manually update my current Version in the Shopify Theme Backend which is Dawn v1.0.0)? Or is there any other elegant way to update the Theme without loosing the changes made in the Theme Editor?
Thank you very much,
Greetings, Gregor

Hello, @gregorsart
If you use themekit or something similar, you could make a copy of your theme, download the new theme from the vendor and try overwriting the copy theme. Unless there are drastic changes, customizer settings would be unaffected.
If you’d like further assistance, please let me know.

Thank you for your advice, unfortunately with the Dawn theme this process did not work:
- I downloaded the Dawn Theme 1.0.0 from my Shopify Admin (prior to that I customized my theme in the Shopify Theme Editor)
- I tried to update the Theme from 1.0.0 by overwriting it with the Dawn Theme 1.1.0 Github Zip
- As a result my Theme “Settings” were gone … ;(
Any other solution … manual update of only certail files or folders?
Hello, @gregorsart
The next step would be to contact the support for your theme. They might have a migration script or offer to do this for you.

Hi, when will the next version be release, I’m looking forward to it.
Hello, @smilesoda
Unfortunately I am not partnered with the developers of that theme.
Relying on my personal experience and work with clients’ themes in shopify’s community I am able to provide solutions to problems one would run into while working with shopify.

There’s no estimated release date for the next version, but you can follow the progress here: https://github.com/Shopify/dawn/projects/1
And you can subscribe to be notified on new Releases

@gregorsart Next time you overwrite, just avoid to upload the file settings_data.json in the config folder, and it should work without losing any setting.
