How does changing patterns affect inventory tracking?

Hi, My client wants to list each available pattern for shorts as its own product (so the collection page shows all the options). Once you click the product they want customer to be able to select a different pattern and size. If the client selects one product (Board Shorts in Waikiki) but then changes it to a different pattern (Board Shorts in Waimea) will the inventory for the correct product be updated accordingly?

You have to customise your product as we did for below client.

Yes, this will maintain the inventory.

Will the inventory be correct as long as there is one SKU for each variant even if item is part of multiple products?

In my client case every selected item is individual product therefore inventory will be maintained.
