"Hello, I’m in the process of launching a retail store in the Belmar area of Colorado, which requires compliance with a Public Improvement Fee (PIF) policy. This fee, totaling 2.5% of all sales, is not classified as a tax but rather as a separate charge. It applies specifically to tangible sales and is added to the total cost. Additionally, there’s a 5.5% charge on the overall transaction amount. Could anyone advise on how to adjust the sales tax rate in Shopify to accurately calculate and incorporate this PIF fee? Here is a sample of the PIF calculation.
Hey. @blklam
I would recommend an app to accomplish this. There is an app called Feesly that works with the Shopify POS that will allow you to add surcharges and fees to orders to help automate this process.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.
Hey Dirk,
Appreciate your response. I’ve found that the Feesly app can help calculate the PIF fee, but I’m also wondering if I can adjust the sales tax during checkout.
In the case of our store in Lakewood, they impose a 2.5% PIF fee. However, the City of Lakewood has concurrently reduced the sales tax collected on Belmar site transactions from 3% to 1% while the PIF is active. Consequently, the total sales tax stands at 5.5%, as illustrated in the example receipt.
We recently build an app dedicated to adding credit card and other fees specifically for Shopify POS. Would love your feedback on it!
