How do I clear out an abandoned cart or simply delete it? TIA

Great question! The only types of orders that can be deleted fall under these specific categories. Although it’s not currently possible to completely delete an abandoned cart you are able to archive them.

To set the abandoned cart as archived:

  • Filter by status = Recovery Status / Not Recovered.
  • Save the search, such as “Open Carts”
  • Now you should have an extra tab at the top called “Open Carts”.
  • Whenever you go to the Abandoned checkouts section, head directly to the new ‘Open Carts’ tab.
  • Bulk select and then archive the ‘Not Recovered’ carts.

As mentioned in our help guide here, abandoned checkouts within a store’s Shopify admin are only retained for three months. Those that are older than three months are removed from your admin every Monday.

Does archiving the abandoned cart remove the product from the customer’s cart as well?

Thanks for your question. Archiving the abandoned cart would only archive it within your admin, it wouldn’t affect the cart on the customer’s end. How long the cart is saved for the customer depends on their browser and cookie settings. You can find more details in this help document.
