If you need to import products into shopify from file which was generated by some other software, you can use feeds bridge it allows you to map your file to system attributes as long as file has all required information for products creation and export it to your shopify store.

It allows you to import up to 500 skus completely free.

You can use this tool: https://apps.shopify.com/ced-importer to import the CSV products to Shopify. No pre-defined format is required to use this tool. There is only one condition that the file should be in CSV format. Also, you can transform the excel files into CSV.
