How do I know how much taxes are automatically added or how do I add them myself? How do I know if someone is exempt from taxes? Do I need a tax person for this?

Hello @NickiR99 ,
Shopify doesn’t file or remit your sales taxes for you. You might need to register your business with your local or federal tax authority to handle your sales tax.

Hey, @NickiR99 !
The Taxes page in the Shopify Help Center that was shared in the previous replies here is the best resource for helping you set up taxes in your admin (under Settings > Taxes). On that page, you’ll find links to tax settings information based on where your business is located.
Shopify Support can help you out with any technical set up questions, as well as troubleshooting if something isn’t working as expected. However, it is important to seek the advice of a tax professional in your area to help you determine whether your business needs to charge taxes, how much you may need to charge, and how best to handle exemptions.
I’ve noticed that some online stores include tax exemption information on their FAQ or Help Center pages, and they sometimes ask customers to contact them or fill out a form to apply for tax exemption. A tax professional can help you determine how to approach this based on requirements in your area. You can set a customer to be fully tax exempt in your admin.
