How do I enable cash on delivery? Is it possible only through the add on apps?

It has option to enable COD in your store admin > Settings > Payments > Manual payment methods

You can configure COD directly within Shopify if you’re using a manual payment method. This option is available in most Shopify plans and is set up as follows:

Steps to Enable COD in Shopify:1. Go to Shopify Admin: Log in to your Shopify admin dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Payment Settings: Go to Settings > Payments.

  2. Choose Manual Payment Methods: Scroll down to the Manual Payment Methods section.

  3. Add Manual Payment Method: Click on Add manual payment method.

  4. Select Cash on Delivery: Choose Cash on Delivery (COD) from the list, or if it’s not listed, you can create a custom manual payment method by selecting Create custom payment method and naming it “Cash on Delivery”.

  5. Set Instructions: Add any instructions for your customers, such as the terms and conditions for accepting COD orders (e.g., “Please have the exact amount ready at the time of delivery”).

  6. Activate COD: Click Activate to enable Cash on Delivery as a payment option in your checkout.

    IF you want some additional features like Charging extra fees for COD orders, Limiting COD to specific products or regions, etc. Then you can refer some external aaps like-
    1. COD Order Confirmation
    2. COD Fee by Releasit
    3. Additional Charges for COD
