How to manage combined shipping rates for multiple products?

I have set up 3 different shipping rates for each product but what if customer buy two or three different products and the shipping fees are added up on each other.

How can i solve this?

Ie. If they buy a standard item + a mask they should be charged $10

If they buy a mask and a bulky item they should be charged $25

If they buy a standard item and a bulky they should be charged $25

d item and a bulky they should be charged $25

Hi @NatalieYeon

Is the bulky item significantly more expensive? If yes, you can tweak your shipping rates with price-based rules so that the higher the order price, the higher they will pay for the shipping.

Another thing that you can do is simply add a portion of the shipping cost to the bulky item’s price instead. This way, you can just charge $10.00 on all items while the shipping for the bulky item is still covered. I hope this helps.

Hi, @NatalieYeon .

Thank you for posting! I hope your day is going well. Shipping can definitely be tricky if you require very specific rates. To provide the best possible set up I will need to know a bit more information. Specifically;

  • What shipping would you like to charge if a customer only purchases a mask?
  • Are the bulky items also heavy?
  • Is there a different price point between standard and bulky items? With that being said, I do have some options you can try.

If you are wanting to stick with what is available within Shopify without an app, I recommend creating Shipping Profiles. The specific set up of those shipping profiles would depend on the above requested context.

Without know the above context, your best option would be to use an app such as Advanced Shipping Rules. This app is extremely robust, and as the name suggests, allows you to create a variety of different rules when charging shipping! If you can think it, this app can do it.

I look forward to learning more about your products so that we can determine the best possible set up for your store!

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestions.

Here are my answers to your questions.

  • What shipping would you like to charge if a customer only purchases a mask? → Shipping should be only $3 NZD if the customer only buys masks
  • Are the bulky items also heavy? → Yes it is heavy and bulky.
  • Is there a different price point between standard and bulky items? With that being said, I do have some options you can try. → Bulky items has more weights and the size of the products is big.

I would like to know if there are any solutions without installing a paid app in shopify to resolve this problem. At the moment, if the customer buys standard item and a bulky item, the shipping is added up but it should have been only charged at bulky item which is $20 max.

Please let me know if there are any other solutions.

Thank you.

Hi, @NatalieYeon .

Shipping really can be difficult to set up if you have very specific needs. While it will be difficult to get the rates perfect without an app, you should be able to get close by setting up Shipping Profiles.

Essentially, you will create three Shipping Profiles. In one Shipping Profile you will have all of your masks, and set this as a flat rate of $3 with no conditions. Then, you will have another profile for “Bulky” and another profile for "Standard.

In the “Bulky” profile, you can set your shipping to $22, so when anything from this profile is purchased with a mask, it will total $25. In the “Standard” profile, you will charge $7, so when any standard item is purchased with mask, it will be $10.

The only downside to this set up, is when a standard item is purchased with a bulky item, the total will be $29, instead of $25. Additionally, when a mask is added to this it will be $32. This is the closest you will be able to get to your needs without installing an app.
