Hi, I currently have the Dawn theme for my website and when I go to fill out the information for my products (material, care instruction, dimensions, etc) it auto fills the same information for ALL of my products. Not all of my products are the same so how can I manually change the info for each one without it auto filling?
Hey @BanxandMain ,
Are you duplicating products at all? This would cause the information to be copied over to a new product. You should be able to create a new product from scratch by simply selecting Products > Add Product.
Otherwise, it’s possible you are utilizing the Metafields feature. You can add care instructions, material information, and dimension information to your products using Metafields. The metafields feature allows you to save information that isn’t usually captured in the Shopify Admin. It also allows you to display that saved information on your storefront. You can read more about setting up and using metafields on this page here.
To use metafields there are ultimately three steps:
- Create the metafield definition following these steps here.
- Add the metafield value to the correct part of your store following these steps here.
- Connect metafields to your theme to display specialized information on your online store following these steps here.
Would you mind sharing your website URL so I can take a closer look at what’s going on?
Look forward to hearing from you!
I have added them as separate products…
My URL is: BanxandMain.com
Thanks @BanxandMain ,

Would you mind heading to one of your Products and checking whether the Metafields section is present, as shown below:

BanxandMain - did you figure this out?
I am having the same trouble. Have individual products created separately - no duplicates. I have also created separate metadata for the types of products requiring different info.
Whenever I add the metadata it overrides what was there. EG: when I add home decor care, then add leather care, the leather overrides the home info.
I have also tried creating pages and adding but does the same thing.
I think what made it work for me was you make a separate page for the item, then go back to your product page where you put in all the information about the product and on the right hand side there will be an option for page layout. There you select the page layout you want and from there it’ll only change the information about that item.
So for me I wanted my shoes to be separate from my shirts. So I added shoes as a collection in my products. Then I created a new page layout and called it shoes. Then went back to my shoes product page and selected the Shoe page layout.
I hope this helps!
Thanks for your reply. I ended up having to give the support area a call and walk through it with them.
I had to create templates for each collection then assign products to that template and was able to get the right descriptions on the products.
They support sent me through instructions for next time as there’s no way I’d remember how to do it.
Shopify Help Centre > Topics > Online Store > Themes > Theme Structure > Templates
Okay great! That’s essentially what I did lol glad it worked out!
