How to personalize pet food subscriptions with custom product apps?

Topic summary

A store owner is redesigning their pet food subscription system to create a more personalized customer experience. They currently use Bold Subscriptions for basic product selection and delivery frequency, but want to implement a workflow similar to The Farmer’s Dog or Nom Nom Now.

Proposed Solution:

  • Collect detailed customer information upfront
  • Generate customized subscription recommendations
  • Direct customers straight to cart after the workflow
  • Use a custom product app integrated with their existing subscription platform

Hi everyone,

We’re currently redesigning the way our store handles pet food subscriptions and are at a bit of a roadblock on deciding the best way forward. Right now we are using bold subscriptions, and that allows people to select the number of product and delivery frequency. That works great. But we want to create a more personalized experience where we collect more information, come up with a subscription that’s right for them and go straight to the shopping cart at the end of the work flow. (similar to The Farmers Dog or Nom Nom Now).

Without developing a completely custom front end, it seems like the best way to go about this would be a combination of a custom product app that we then get a developer to hook into our subscription app.

Just wanted to throw this idea out there to see if I was missing an obvious solution.

Thanks!

Hello,

i have been trying to set up a similar business in a different country and shopify is not very suitable for this kind of website. Would you be willing to share yours so I can see it? Thanks!

hey @TonyP1 @Pk27 - I’d be intersted in how you got on with this and if things have changed since 2021. We looked at personalised pet subs on Shopify back then and found the same as PK27 below … that the functionality wasn’t really available from 3rd part subscription apps. Has anything changed? have you had any luck? cheers…
