We are an Australian based store, and have customers from Norfolk Island wishing to purchase from us, however they are unable to checkout as they get an error “Enter a valid postal code for New South Wales” when entering the (valid) postcode of 2899. Norfolk Island is an official region of Australia and the postcode is confirmed on the Australia Post website.
Does anyone else have this issue? I have done a test checkout in 5 of the top Australian Shopify stores and get the same error message for all.
There’s a few cases of countries having external territories - with Australia being one. Selecting Norfolk Island (or ones like Cocos [Keeling] Islands) from the country/region selector is the path customers need to take.
Thanks for that Jason. This has allowed me to find a work around.
For anyone else following, I needed to add a “new market” of “Norfolk Island” and then I had to create a new shipping zone for the Norfolk Island market.
Now I just need to find a workaround for the error that is given when someone on Norfolk Island uses an Australian mobile phone number
For anyone following, we were unable to get this working unfortunately. Once we ironed out all the bugs and got to the payment stage, none of the payment processors accepted for Norfolk Island were ones we use (ie: none of the ‘main’ ones). Since we are not about to set up a new payment processor just for one small island this is as far as we get
I have just been trying to purchase some stuff from Officeworks and it has the same error code. So frustrating because I know that we can have things shipped here but if you want something within a few weeks of purchasing, the package needs to be sent via Aust express post which is essentially airmail. If you follow the steps to send via regular post, it will be sent via ship mail and can take 6 months to arrive in your post box. If you are ordering items for Christmas for your kids, you basically have to be a year ahead of yourself. Did you get any where with your questions from 2024?
