How to show carbon neutral shipping on shipping labels

Hello!

Does anyone know how to get the “This shipment is carbon neutral” or something like that on the shipping labels? I know our packages are sent with carbon-neutral shipping through Shopify (which is awesome, by the way!), but I’m not sure how to get the sign on the actual printed label that shows that it was sent that way. We’d love to be able to show that to our customers!

Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify Community about your question! It’s awesome to hear that you’re passionate about Shopify’s carbon neutral shipping. It really is something worth sharing with your customers. We have a great support document on the topic here in case anyone else reading this information is interested in knowing more.

When it comes to adding this information directly to your shipping labels, this won’t be possible. However, you can instead add this wording to your packing slips and include these in your orders. You can edit your packing slips to include this information by accessing the liquid editor for the slip itself. The steps to do so are below:

  • Login to your Shopify Admin
  • Navigate to ‘Settings’ > ‘Shipping and Delivery’
  • Scroll down the page until you find the ‘Packing Slip’ section and click ‘Edit’
  • From here you will see the Liquid Editor for the Packing Slip. You’ll just scroll down the editor and look for the paragraph sections. From there, you can add in the desired text and save it. You can then preview the slip and see the wording. If you find that things didn’t work as expected, there is a ‘restore to default’ button you can click to return the slip to a state before any edits were made.

Do you currently use packing slips in your shipping? If not, you should look into it as it’s a great way to provide information to your customers about their order and provide a touch more branding, as well.

I’d just seen some shipping labels from USPS with “This shipment is carbon neutral”, I believe, and thought that would be awesome for us to be able to incorporate.

I did some googling and scouting out of the different mail carries in the US (so picture USPS and UPS) and it looks like there are situations where their shipping labels will include wording about carbon-neutral shipping but I couldn’t find much information on what determines the labels saying such information. This would probably be a fantastic question for USPS and the other carriers themselves honestly.

The Packing Slip route remains the go-to solution here for you, in my opinion! But, give the carriers a call if you’re interested and they may be able to provide you with some specific information about this. Shopify-wise, packing slips are the way to go!
