I want to pay for NEW customers only on Meta. No matter what we do (including excluding the entire existing customer list), the number of new customers noted on Shopify do not in any way, shape or form, map to Meta. Appreciate attribution models are different but this is WAY off. There can be no other explanation than that Meta is attributing existing customer purchases to our campaigns that explicitly exclude existing customers based on a live Klaviyo email list AND existing purchasers for the last 180 days.
So…the million dollar question is this: Is there a way to set up a custom conversion such that it will only attribute a conversion for a NEW customer sale on Shopify?
To accurately track purchases from new customers only on Meta, I recommend creating a Custom Conversion based on a “new customer” tag in Shopify. Here’s how:
Set up a “New Customer” tag in Shopify: Use Shopify’s Flow or automate a process to tag customers who are making their first purchase. For example, you can create a “new_customer” tag that gets applied after the first order is placed.
Create a Custom Conversion in Meta: In Meta Events Manager, set up a Custom Conversion that specifically tracks the “new_customer” tag applied to the order. This will ensure that only purchases from new customers (those with the tag) are tracked and attributed in Meta.
By following this method, Meta will only attribute conversions to first-time customers, completely excluding repeat buyers.
