I have tied stripe payment on the shopify backend, but when I turn on Google pay and Apple Pay, it needs to verify domain ownership. stripe gives the files that need to be uploaded to the website directory
/.well known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain- ASSOCIATION looks like this
But how does shopify upload files to this directory or how does it pass validation, there is nothing on the backend to upload to the root directory and it doesn’t validate through redirects, only direct access. I see a lot of stores have both payment methods enabled, how is this accomplished?
I’ve been trying to figure this out with shopify for over a week - they keep ignoring me and keep asking the same questions and claiming that “it’s displayed on the website”. They don’t listen that the payment is displayed but it doesn’t work!
Thank you for reaching out here. Can you please tell me more about why you need to verify domain ownership in this manner? Is this a request you are receiving from your payment gateway?
Hi, Stripe requires us to verify our domain ownership if we want to use Apple Pay as a payment method. Stripe asks us to download a file, upload it to our domain using a certain location and than verify the domain ownership (look at the attached screenshot).
Unfortunately Shopify doesn’t let us upload files to certain locations. When the file is uploaded to the site through the files section in the admin, the file appears in a shopify domain (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/...) and not the merchant’s domain, not even mentioning the certain location that Stripe requires.
This has been a problem for a long time. As a result, many merchants are unable to use Apple Pay as a payment method in their Shopify stores, including us.
You don’t need to upload a file for verifying Stripe as they are already integrated on Shopify. Simply follow our guide to activate a third-party gateway and select Stripe. However, it’s important to note that Stripe is not available for all merchants by default, and it can be based on location. Once you’ve entered your merchant credentials, you’ll be able to enable the available accelerated checkout methods (eg. Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) offered by Stripe.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don’t hesitate to let us know.
thank you for reaching out, I have connected my Stripe account to my Shopify store successfully. However, when I checked my checkout page, I noticed that there are no payment methods supported by Stripe. The only alternative method I found was PayPal. Do I need to do any coding to add Stripe payments to my checkout? Do I miss something here? Thank You
Based on the offerings by Stripe, the only accelerated checkout option is Apple Pay. In order for Apple Pay to appear, you will need to checkout using an Apple device with Apple Pay set up on the device. All the other offerings by Stripe (in your case) are for supported credit cards, so they would simply use the standard credit card entry to checkout.
That being said, did you get a chance to test the checkout on an Apple device with Apple Pay?
thank you for your prompt response, in order to activate Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment methods on the checkout page, stripe has mentioned that the domain must be verified to use these services, and I don’t have an Apple device my phone is Android system. However my checkout page has no payment methods besides Paypal even when I connected my Stripe account to Shopify, I felt that I’m missing something i don’t know
We’ve checked with our internal teams and the Stripe instructions do not apply to Shopify. However, it doesn’t look like their integration on Shopify has Google Pay enabled. That being said, we’d be happy to check on your website and see if Apple Pay is appearing as an option.
We’ve taken a look at your storefront, and we are seeing the option for Apple Pay using an Apple iPhone. While that does confirm that you don’t need to upload any files onto Shopify for the verification with Stripe, it does also mean that Stripe’s integration on Shopify currently doesn’t offer Google Pay. If Google Pay is something that you’re looking for, then we’d recommend contacting Stripe for further support on how to enable Google Pay on Shopify as the file upload and verification is not required on Shopify.
Thank you for your feedback, Does this mean the integration between stripe and Shopify was successful? if it’s why I don’t see any payment methods on my checkout page beside Paypal? thank you
When I viewed your online store and navigated to the checkout to make a purchase, I did see that you have the PayPal gateway and the payment gateway enabled successfully on the store. Based on the screenshot that you have provided above, it does look like the Stripe gateway is successfully enabled on your store.
Thank you for your feedback and assistance. I am feeling overwhelmed because I am unable to enable the checkout protection feature without having my checkout powered by Stripe, as they informed me. However, I do not know how to do this as I am not a developer and I do not have experience with coding. I’ll try to test the payment gateway to see how it goes , thank you
I am having the same issues as others in the thread. I have stripe integrated but Apple Pay won’t save when I select it. Can you check this for me? My url is kratogenicsupplements.com
Hi, @jwturner1865 . If you are using Stripe, but not seeing the payment options enabled through Stripe it’s best to contact Stripe’s support for further help so they can take a look at this with you. They can also share more information about testing payments with Stripe.
