Hello,
We currently have an online shop and am planning to open a retail location within the next month. We have purchased a third party barcode scanner/printer and am wondering if this hardware will be compatible with Shopify’s POS software.
Also, if we scan an item that we have in inventory, will the barcode/sku automatically be entered in for the product in our inventory, or do we have to enter them manually?
Thank you!
Hello @Stevepie75 ,
Can you please provide the name of barcode scanner/printer to check if it will be supported or not or check the documentation - Click here.
Also, If that barcode is already saved in the product’s details (under “Barcode” or “SKU” field), the product will be pulled up automatically in Shopify POS.
The scanner is a DPRT, model number hn-1358sr.
We haven’t gotten the barcode maker yet.
@Stevepie75 Can you please test it by connecting to the POS software like the DPRT HN‑1358SR can and likely will work with Shopify POS as long as it can be paired or connected and operates in “keyboard emulation” mode. However, because it’s not officially listed on Shopify’s supported hardware list, plan to test thoroughly:
-
Check connectivity with your device.
-
Scan a few barcodes to verify they trigger product recognition.
-
Try both USB and Bluetooth modes.
Many users report that non-approved scanners still work, since scanners emulate typing barcodes—just like keyboard input
Please try and check it and there might be the case that it will work.
