International customers being charged more?

on 10/10/2023 Shopify sent this email:

To better serve your international buyers, local currencies will be enabled on your store on October 16, 2023. Once it’s enabled, your international customers will be able to browse your store and check out in their local currency.

I did not opt out because I thought it was a good idea

However it looks like the international customer is being charged more than what I am charging for the product.

Sorry if I am not understanding something and apologize in advance.

Are they charging the international customer more for the product than I am asking?

I sell something for $41.95 US - however they charged the international customer in Euros - 40.95 which comes out to be 43.26 US dollars. So adding that up x 2 items - is $86.52 - US which is the correct data stored in the data model for US currency. BUT why is the international customer being charged $1.31 US more? Did I miss something?

Thanks

I misunderstood:

I see it now

“With our solution, buyers see prices in their local currency and we embed the conversion fee into the prices of your products - eliminating the currency conversion fee charged by their credit card issuers. Your buyers will be more likely to convert and they know what they’re paying upfront with no surprise fees.”

The exchange rate Shopify offers seems to be higher than the market rate. Hence your customers would actually save money if they bought products using your store’s currency. However, Shopify currently only allows customers to pay in the currency linked to their shipping address, which many are frustrated with.
