Hello guys
I am based in US and I am on the Basic plan.
I found out that with my plan I don’t have the option of collection of international duties and import taxes at checkout. I also don’t get the option of DDP and DAP label printing. I know that I need to add extra info on the package so it can go through customs etc, how do you guys do that? Do you attach an extra slip with info for customs? If so, is this like a blank form, how do you fill it out and where do you get it?
Thank you guys, much appreciated!

Shopify default shipping is always DAP (DDU) and you are required to fill out the customs form as you buy the label and it should print out with the label. That info should be placed in a packing slip envelope on the package.
If you want to send DDP (customers love it, cause its honest and upfront and no surprises) one of the easiest ways to get started is to use Easyship and their duty/tax calculator: https://www.easyship.com/taxes-and-duties
To take full advantage of that and display the rates at checkout to customers you would need to upgrade to at least the “shopify” plan. 3rd party calculated shipping is a small monthly add-on for that plan: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/setup/shipping-rates/third-party-carrier-calculated-shipping
Most of the customs forms will be digital within Easyship and you can use their platform to generate DDP shipping labels anywhere it is supported.
If you prefer to just send DAP and most of your stuff is under 4lb I recommend Pirateship Simple Export - the customs forms are digitally submitted and they sync with shopify: https://www.pirateship.com/simple-export-rate
Easyship also has some great options for DAP you can use that are often sometimes cheaper than pirateship - Not quite as simple to use, but both are great!
Feel free to hit me up with questions, we moved all of our EU/UK/CA shipping to DDP a few years back and it has been amazing for us.

Thank you for your answer, I am looking possibly into upgrading my plan.
I will reach out to you if I have any more questions.

Happy to help!
I will note that I recommend shipping domestic through Pirateship or Easyship also for all items under $100
The UPS Ground Saver prices are currently $0.30-$0.50 cheaper per label than USPS on those platforms. That adds up pretty fast.
(I only say for under $100 because shopify insurance coverage is free up to $200 which evens out…)

Ok, Pirateship could be the way to go.

If you are not sending much international and prefer to stick with the ease of DAP/DDU then that is definitely a great option.
Doesn’t require any upgrade or additional costs to you, just makes life easier.
Just make sure you chat with their support and have them enable Simple Export Pricing.

Ok, will Pirateship work with my basic plan at all or do I need the calculated rate feature?
Thank you

@Eugene_EU I recommend trying out the application with the same plan and upgrading only if it suits your requirements. That said, displaying accurate shipping rates to the customers is always a plus since you and your customers will know the exact shipping cost without the guesswork.

I just talked to Pirateship support. They said that they don’t do calculated rates at checkout after Shopify integration. So, (I am a little confused here) even if you have calculated rate feature with a higher plan whose rates are being calculated at your checkout? Or are you offering a flat rate and then buying the label separately from Pirateship?
A lot of nuances here with this shipping and it’s hard to understand.
I appreciate your response.
@Eugene_EU Pirateship does not do calculated rates at checkout.
If you go with pirateship I would recommend just setting up a few flat rate options for international customers using their Simple Export pricing as a guide: https://www.pirateship.com/simple-export-rate
For domestic you could setup flat rates or just use calculated and pocket the difference of a few cents in savings to cover your shipping costs.
Easyship is the one that offers calculated rates at checkout via integration with shopify, but that requires paying shopify more and paying easyship.
