Inventory location vs. pickup location

I want my online shoppers choosing local pickup to be able to choose the pickup location of their choice even if the inventory is not currently there as we will get it to the location for them. There does not seem to be a way to do this. Only the default location is generating because that is where product originates. Not all product is currently located in all locations and moves often so its entered at the default location. Customers tell us where they want to pick up and we get it there. Has an

Hi @KelleyB ,

Thanks for the post. I believe this can be achieved by making sure that the option “continue selling when out of stock” is on, as per our help document here.

To do this, head to Products > All Products. Select the products you’d like to enable this for and click “Edit products”. This opens a spreadsheet that allows you to add the “Continue selling when out of stock” field.

Here you can check the boxes for the relevant products. Here’s more information on bulk editing, and if you’re wanting to utilize CSV in the future for importing product details with these specifications, you can find out how with this guide.

Let me know if that does the trick for you. If I can clarify any of the above or offering guidance elsewhere, just let me know!

@Ren Thank you. This helps generate all the pick up options. However, it creates another problem. In the test product I created I only had one available. By checking “continue selling when out of stock” I was able to chose any pickup location, which is great, but I purposely order 2 items which I know I don’t have in inventory but it wanted to see what the result would be. So ultimately, I was now oversold. This won’t work for our business. Is this the only way to generate all pickup locations?

Hi Kelley,

Our OMS at Orderbot has built-in functionality to handle these types of situations

@DonnaS thanks. We are looking into it.

Thanks for giving that a try. That is the only way to generate pick-up locations within the Shopify admin, yes.

However, there may be some workarounds using third-party apps to consider. For example, keeping your process the same as above as far as having “continue selling when out of stock” marked, and then using a third-party app such as one of these, to do your inventory tracking instead.

Additionally, you may be able to access a different way of providing pick-up locations with the use of an app such as Local Pickup Guru or Store Pickup by Genie Apps.

As these are third-party options, I recommend downloading a few and utilizing the trial time and their app support to narrow down which may be most appropriate for your business needs.

Let me know if I can clarify any of that and I would love an update on how that goes for you!
